Only saw one of this guy's films before but it feels like being alive to see Kurosawa's films new for the first time seeing the clips on youtube today. I hope he gets the budget for something truly epic in his style

As a kid my mother would bring me to a high school that played Japanese movies on Saturdays. It was great to see these gems on a bigger screen even though they were always b & w

At 4:54: I strongly agree with your vivid saying: vibes are letting out when sound track was played. You have said it all I felt about it, too.

I’d the recommend, “The Samurai I Loved” a beautiful love story with plenty of sword play toward the end . A lovely story!

Thanks dear for the beautiful review on this movie
I have to say it was nice time when I watched this film

But I think it’s below the level of twilight samurai and love & honor

In general, the music and cinematography saved the film

Good luck 🌷

I remember watching The Twilight Samurai, RAN as well as a bunch of classic Japanese films. Also watched this movie all around the same time and I totally forgot the name of the title. Feels like far more then a decade ago that I watched this but it was indeed a great film and has been one of the little gems that has always kept me interested in Japanese cinema.

It's a matter of taste. You cannot force anyone to watch or like a certain movie. Until now I still love the old black and white samurai flicks. The movies your mentioning did it garnered recognition from the Japanese populous? They did this hoping to enter the Academy awards. 13 Assassins is more popular than The Twilight Samurai. I prefer "When The last Sword is Drawn", because we are living that kind of life. To find ways including to sacrifice just to provide.

The journey to accomplish your training is long and tedious and although I have only watched a few Japanese films, to understand the film, I feel (personally), that you must understand that the slightest movement has the greatest of meaning and just in the snippet you showed us displays that so well. Try turning off the sound and you will have a very different movie. Thank you.

Personally I thought this film was generic AF but I appreciate that you put the spotlight on obscure Samurai films.
