Do you have it backwards? It’s taking the air from the room and pushing it out. It’s sucks the air from the room to the back of the unit and cools it that’s why there’s filters.

That’s the exact same one I have but mine says “ARCTIC KING” on the front where yours says (I think you said “Insignia”?). I bought mine at WalMart about 4 years ago. They are actually made by “Midea”, which is one of the best you can buy!

Here's how it works buddy. The compressor motor inside the unit actually does the cooling, but that motor creates a lot of heat, so as to not be counterproductive, you need to exhaust that hot air out of the room you're trying to cool into atmosphere. That's what the duct does and you did a pretty decent job sealing off the window. Thanks for the recommendation, would you approximately know the BTU of the unit and sq.ft of the room you're cooling?

Get a normal window ac, portable air conditioners create a pressure differential between the inside and outside, which means warmer outside air will seep in through cracks in the house.

We got one when our central air system went out during peak season, 2016. Came in handy while waiting for our new system to be installed. It cooled out family room, kitchen area and guest bathroom during the day. At night it was moved to cool the master bedroom and bathroom!

Buy a dual hose unit. The single hose blows the heat outdoors as well as using inside room air to supply air to the coil, the dual hose unit pulls air from outside to blow through condenser then blows it back outdoors without using indoor air to blow through condenser.

1. It's not a life hack it does what it's supposed to do.

2. It does not suck in air from outside that hose is the exhaust for the hot air you would know this if you turned it on and put your hand behind it you can literally feel the insane amount of hot air being pushed out.
