The Book On The XP Deus Metal Detector

The XP Deus metal detector changed the game. Its imprint has been left, but has never been able to be duplicated in the history of the metal detecting industry. It is completely wireless and high in useful screens (XY, Horseshoe) programs, (fast, deep, hot, maxx) and tools (high frequency coil, low frequency coil, etc.). But it was a detector that first was made in the early 2010's and it is still retailing now at a high price. Does it make sense to buy a Deus 1 in 2022?

Hi, my name is Merrill Kazanjian. New York City is an amazing place to go metal detecting. We have lots of parks, colonial history and great beaches for beach detecting. I have gone to all five boroughs of New York City To Metal Detect and beyond. I also currently own 16 metal detectors. I want to have the best and I want to help you choose the best as well. Below I will showcase some of the playlists on this channel:

Minelab Soveriegn: (Coming Soon)

I have a playlist of metal detecting videos to teach metal detecting. The videos in the playlist below are specifically made to teach the skills and mindset to becoming a great metal detectorist.

I am a treasure hunter. So in addition to metal detecting, I go mudlarking at sites such as Dead Horse Bay. Think of mudlarking as metal detecting without a metal detector.

My most important series is called Becoming A Millionaire Metal Detecting. I am trying to monetize my favorite hobby in order to do it more in the future. In other words, we put the clad we find in the ground, affiliate earnings, and merchandise earnings in to the stock market and we invest it. This show started in January 2019.

If you asked 100 people to rate the 20 metal detectors that you own (after using each machine for 100 hours minimum) it is very possible that you'd get 100 different lists. Some reasons for the different takes (on each metal detector) are obvious - types of sites hunted, types of targets sought. etc... Other reasons are a bit more difficult to quantify - personal preferences, attunement with each metal detector, etc...

I think one of the strengths of the Deus (1) is also one of its weaknesses - the ability to fine tune many adjustments. Some prefer a simpler machine; turn it on and go find targets. Some believe that they're not getting 100% of what their metal detector has to offer if they don't adjust every possible setting. The Whites V3i suffered from the same blessing/curse - people said it was too complex and many users made far too many incorrect adjustments that ultimately diminished performance.

My own rating would see the Deus (1) ranked much higher (in the list of 20 metal detectors that you own) but to be perfectly fair, I don't place a high emphasis on hunting in saltwater (the Deus (1) does not shine in that realm). I do find the Deus (1) to be superior in iron trash situations and I think it is at least equal to the Equinox 800 (yes, I own an 800) in modern trash areas. Tossing the Deus II and the Legend out of the rankings (they're too new - but I do expect both of them to be very impressive) - I would rate the Deus (1) as the top machine.

But my ranking is not without its own bias as I mostly hunt areas with 300 years of human activity (and the iron trash that comes with it) - situations where the Deus (1) really shines. If I hunted saltwater with the regularity that you do, my top pick would almost certainly be the Equinox 800 (again, I'm not counting the Deus II or the Legend due to their short time on the market).

Anyway, I enjoyed reading your ratings and watching your reasons for the rating you give the Deus (1). I am looking forward to seeing your rating for the Deus II and the Legend at some point in the future.

Sorry Merrill. WOW! the Deus 1 technical details are impressive. Alas above my comprehension level. Dang I should never have dropped out of electronic engineering school, decades ago.

I have a nox 800 and a deus 1 and several others that being said. The deus 1 with the hf coil is king in the trash in the hands of an experienced users The nox is pretty good with a 6 inch coil .love the Chanel keep up the great work. I am waiting to get the deus 2 honestly it's mostly because of the primitive looking antenna for water hunting how long will it last .Another thing about xp only one place in 🇺🇸 that does warranty in Massachusetts kinda sketchy gotta pay return shipping in advance. Keep using the deus I master full tones hot program.

I love gary's channel what surprised me was he's in europe and still uses metric and imperial measurements, and the beloved CO-EK

I agree that it isn't the best in trashy parks unless one is looking for jewelry - where it shines. I keep mine around for very old sites full of iron and for "beep and dig" jewelry hunting. It also feels great - as you said - excellent ergonomics. It also seems like the deus 1 has site specific performance - outstanding in some spots and quite poor in others - suggesting that it needs a lot of settings tweaking. The equinox is like a mutt - easy to deal with whatever the situation.

Great video. I have used the equinox 600 for about four years and have absolutely loved it. I'm a twice a day hunter so I have put countless hours on the equinox. One of the reasons I love the equinox is because it's relatively easy to use, a turn on and go detector. I recently purchased a Deus 2 and had about a month un- delectable weather. (I live in Northern Michigan and have frozen ground and lots of snow.) In that month of not being able to detect I spent a lot of time trying to master the Deus 2 remote and that has helped me a lot when the time came to actually detect. The Deus 2 will be a long learning process for me but so far I am enjoying it.

The spot where the Deus 2 is going to be the hardest to learn is in parks and tons of modern trash to go deep specifically, but I know it can beat my nox if I stick with it. I just brought the D2 to one of the most pounded fields I know of. It has a good amount of iron and many square nails.Pounded to death by a few people I know personally, my father and myself. I had the nox and anfibio in there many times and could barely get decent signals of any kind. With the D2 in deep HC in two hours I got a standing liberty quarter, a two cent piece, five deep wheat cents, an Indian, and SEVERAL good brass targets that should have been easy. Also the SLQ had a big square nail right on it. So it wasn’t just a little better, it was like stepping up from an old WHITES to the nox! That happened at 20 hours of field use. It just started clicking. I know with the right settings that parks will eventually click too and when it does, watch out!

I very much enjoy your videos and like the way you get the message across they make me smile here in the UK. The Deus 1 is a switch on and go machine, however if you think too deeply about all that it is capable of and that you need to learn all about it before using it, then I can see how that is a turn off. Its a bit like photoshop you can do basic stuff with it or indeed in time learn the other 1000s of things it can do as you get more confident. The Deus 1 is a detector that when you get more confident and experienced with it, it will meet most of your new demands. I say this as a biased Deus 1 user since I got mine on version v2 software (now on v5.2). With regards to the Deus 2, I will probably get one once all the hype and bugs settle down, once the dust has settled I will look more into what it really does. I look forward to more videos.

That thing is way to complicated for me. I just want to turn on the machine and use it. For a reasonable cost. Again, that's what I want. If someone else wants more, go for it.

I separate detectors in 4 classes. <$400 = beginner, $400-750 = intermediate, $750-1200 Advanced, >$1200 = Pro. My experience says Legend and NOX 600 are the absolute best in price category. Those two compete well above that class. NOX 800 and Deus 1 are the best in the advanced category. Deus beats NOX for overall depth and relics. In the Pro category, Deus 2 is going to be the best overall detector. Wish I could afford one. Dig that teacher brain in, learn those menus. Your Son is very bright, have him throw pop quizzes on you. Good Father/Son activity!

Good video D2 is really impressing me at the can see now why so many like the Xp Deus.

Yep I'm learning allot of this myself with my Deus 2. I am picking up on these menus. I went from the atpro to equinox 800 to simplex to vanquish 540 and now the Deus 2.

I returned the simplex because it was just a backup bring along for a friend machine. My wife hated it and always wanted to use my Equinox so I instead purchased the Vanquish 540 pro pack. She does great with the 8 inch coil. First time out with it we were on the silver and 100+ year old coins. The 8 inch coil does very well in trashy areas and the 12 inch coil does great on other places.

Now I got The Deus 2 always learning! Thanks for sharing your videos in an instructional knowledge based Way! It's why I continue to watch your videos.

PS I'm looking forward to the release of your scoop!

Merrill,

I have found Deus users to be the equivalent of PI hunters. They are beholden to their machines and their technology and nothing, even logic and facts, will change them.

I think the elephant in the room here is that the Deus is sentient and not intended (doesn’t want) to be fully understood. Really itching to buy one but not sure if it’s safe to have one in the house while I’m asleep 🤖

I think with the deus and deus 2 it depends how your brain is wired, I enjoy tinkering to get the best out of any machine. If you are a once a month hobby detectorist it is not probably the machine for you to get the best out of it it takes time and a lot of people haven't got that time and just want to go detecting. There is so much more that can be squeezed out of the deus than just the standard programme's.

Hi Merrill, I agree about the Deus1 menu system being difficult. I am a tech guy and there is no clear technical or logical explanation of how the Notching works or the Ground Notch and Silencer and Audio Overload. and other features. Maybe the manual writers don’t understand the system either The notching mysteriously does not go below 0. But the Nox is intuitive and Notching below 0 is allowed. The Deus 1 is light but the Deus 2 has heavier coils. Again is the D2 similarly illogical and boggling to set up properly?
I set the D1 up with very high sensitivity and audio response out in the open compared to others and get great results sometimes. But the Nox is easier to set up well for any conditions. Great vid.👍👍👍

Great video, although I had not subscribed to your channel, I watch most of what you put out there and enjoy them very much. I have actually just come to terms with the Deus 1 . It has taken a few years but I have utmost confidence in it now. Like yourself, I just picked up a Deus 2 since the multi frequencies interested me especially since all I hunt are old colonial homesites and farms. I’m not sure I’m liking the Deus 2 yet . I’m not very fond of the tones and I’m unsure of what are the best programs to use. I have the 11” coil but wish I ordered the 9”. I’m 68 and even an extra ounce or two isn’t helpful. I’ve learned most of my Deus knowledge from Gary Blackwell as the guy is just amazing to me. Detecting HOF’r for sure. Still to this day the detector I’ve had the most fun with was my old Whites MXT PRO which I still use on occasion. No matter what the machine, they all take time to master to get the most out of them.
