Drop Shot Fishing for Deep Crappie and Bluegill

If you’re a bass fisherman that also enjoys catching panfish like crappie and brim, chances are your favorite spots are also loaded with panfish - that’s why the bass are there in the first place. A lot of panfish anglers take a top down approach with tactics like float or jig fishing, but a drop shot can be deadly when panfish are just off bottom. The same drop shot setup used for your bass fishing works just fine for this highly effective summer and fall tactic, as Scott Glorvigen shows us in this video.

I've been doing this on my kayak fishing trips. Super effective! most of my kayak fishing videos are done this way on my channel ^^

Very interesting -- he keeps his bail open when the drop shot is on the bottom? And just feeling the line for a bite?

I hear Crappie are tasty little suckers, are bluegill also good eaters? Thanks folks. Happy fishing.

Interesting presentation, maybe I'll try it sometime in one of my videos, thanks for sharing!

If your fishing for crappie, the skinny worm and minnow is best.
If your fishing for gills, the skinny worm and a wax worm is best. IMO

Why not use a dropper loop for the hook?

im in cali on castaic lake and its lower lagoon. its tough here from shore. so i go for sunfish also. but over the last month ive noticed the fish seem to have moved deep.
and the bite is dead from shore at least when im there. i use light line but i need to get my cast out there now it seems. what line should i be using to say cast a 2 oz weight so i can get my bait out there. ya a few months ago it seemed the panfish were up close to shore and i was dropshotting them on almost any size rock you could see right offshore. so ya the dropshot does pwn. i think its the best way to catch fish. even 90% of my bass are caught on drop shot. the bad thing though from shore is you get snagged a lot doing it compared to say a boat where you can maneuver around the snags. nice vid and tips
