Old time relic hunter (started in the 1960s) passed away and left his entire Civil War collection to my friend! The collection has been hidden away from view for 50 years. We break the seal, enter, and WOW. This will be a series of vids. A first long look around today. Part 2 will be breaking the collection down, identifying what's here, and preparing it to be moved to its new home. We'll have some fun with this, and then post the conclusion with the BEST stuff in this collection. But it's ALL good! I never say things like "Amazing" and "Once In A Lifetime," but I don't mind saying it today!

I'm thrilled that the gentleman who built this collection had the great wisdom to see that it was passed on to wonderful new caretakers who will ensure its continued preservation so that future generations will be able to learn from it. There's a lesson there for all of us - we are temporary caretakers of the relics we find and must ensure they will be preserved to that future Americans can learn from them.

Incredible. That’s all I can say. I’ve metal detected the past 10 years and it amazes me to see this collection. I know what it’s about to amass a collection. Just incredible.

such amazing collection. a friend started re-enacting in the ‘60s’, they did not even have the
proper uniforms available! the last time I saw him was in 2005. he had such great stories
of how it was in the start of re-enacting, to now with the accurate goods.

What a beautiful collection. It makes me bummed that I came to the metal detecting hobby so late...lol. I have been living and traveling in CW country for the past 20 years. Thank you for sharing, I hope it finds a place where other enthusiasts can view and appreciate someone's life long passion for our history.

Your shirt has Milligan softball shirt on at the end. If that's the college in Johnson city? My son went there on swimming scholarship. I live about 10 mintues from the college. Amazing video the blew this video away. Congratulations looking forward to more of these. Thanks for sharing. *Chris*

While listening to your introduction, I was reminded of Geraldo Rivera and Al Capone's safe. That proved to have a bit more relevance than I expected.

So, the room hasn't been opened in fifty years, right? If that's true, then what's with the t-shirts with "2014" printed on them?

I wonder if some of those massive frags are from 13-inch seacoast mortars. Definitely some kind of massive mortar I would think.

You have a good presence in front of the camera and that's everything when you're making videos. I'd give you 5 out of 5 stars which makes you the star of the show, just saying.
I enjoyed seeing the collection brought to light and look forward to your videos as you explore the collection in more detail. I think some people would rather leave things buried in the past and forget they ever happened but I think it's better to remember and never forget so we can have a better understanding of who we are and where we came from so we can learn and think about where we're going.
We do all the work, we pay all the bills and we fight all the wars when the blood gets spilled. It's not to be taken lightly or glorified but the reality is there are things worth fighting for and chief of those is freedom and liberty to live our own lives not as subjects or slaves but as free men and women who choose our own destiny. If we truly believe the Bible that in the beginning God created one Man and called their name Adam then the question is who is Man at war with? There's only one answer Man is at war with himself. What follows that is war is suicide and we all pay the price. That doesn't cancel out there are things worth fighting for and why the people have the natural born rights to defend themselves from those that claim it's their right to enslave us in chains of oppression and tyranny. Give us your guns it's our job to protect you, feed you, make medical decisions for you. Tell you what to think, how to act, what you can and can't say and never forget we will tell you what the "Official Story" is and nobody is allowed to question it. Divide and conquer, create chaos from the shadows then present yourself as the only one that can make it stop. Sound familiar? It's got us surrounded at the moment some people just don't know when to quit. I guess what I'm saying is I don't want another war but if it comes we need to identify our real enemy and not just kill each other. That's why uncovering our history is so important. I wish you all the best!

Wow!!! The canteen with unit stencils. The “39” on the canteen is the actual number of the soldier in the company. I don’t know if they went in alphabetical order or just as they were mustered/issued their gear.

You can tell how much this guy loved his collection just by how much care each item was placed in the case with. Amazing!
