Dude one major reason I'm with your channel is your humility. Whether you are conducting interviews or talking about your own experiences in the industry, you are always authentic and straightforward. You never sugarcoat, blame others, show off nor complain, rather just puts in the work, speak facts and keep a positive outlook.

Dude seriously clement, this was one of the most honest videos I've seen on youtube in a very long time. Great work on laying it out there for us younger folks.

"You demand, I provide"
I used the same argument but the judge didn't quite follow my line of thinking.

You are a great example of how passion and enthusiasm can get someone their dream job irrespective of their career background.

Yes!! Thank you for sharing!
Two things:
1) Definitely interested in you making a twitch video!
2) Do you use a de-esser or a windscreen? It'll help your audio quality a lot! You have extremely strong plosives that can come across unpleasantly through phone speakers.

You're an awesome YouTuber!

Interesting that you don't mention your Youtube channel on your resume - do you think it would be potentially harmful to do that?

You know what would be a cool video, if you got a Google recruiter to go through your old(or new) resume and say what would be valuable to them as a recruiter

As an Astrophysics PhD student who is looking at an alternative career in the tech industry, it makes me happy that you're using LaTeX for your resume. It's pretty much the only thing allowed for paper or CV writing for us. A true man of culture =)

As someone who has worked full time at 2 FAANG companies and have a degree from one of the top 4 CS institutions in the US, I think the pull of having UPenn with a degree in math on your resume wasn't really emphasized enough. While Google is relatively generous with handing out interviews and casting a wide net, in terms of general CS recruiting, having any Ivy League, even one that isn't known for CS/Engineering (aka not Harvard, Princeton, UPenn, or Cornell) or a degree that isn't strictly CS, is still a huge booster.

Especially for entry level software engineers, the expectation that one is well versed in modern tooling, frameworks, and technologies, or even being a proficient programmer with decent CS background/knowledge, is not as valuable as the idea of hiring someone with good habits, work ethic, analytical thinking skills, and strong learning abilities, which top academic institutions are generally a strong signal for. It's kinda messed up, considering how the industry considers itself to be very meritocratic, but if you just look at LinkedIn under "People" for every top company, there's a huge imbalance of top academic institutions. (Also, yes, I recognize that there are some confounding factors; for example, someone at a top school might have a higher chance of having a good resume, or are in an environment that recognizes leetcode and the internship process as a priority for getting a full time job). A mathematics degree from UPenn would definitely give you a huge edge over more than 80-90% of the other candidates from the get go.

Later on in one's career, experience, etc becomes much more important and which school you went to becomes unimportant (unless it's a PhD or MBA for certain more specialized rolls), but I don't think it's fair to pretend that, say, foreign students who need sponsorship from schools with no international reputation and no real relevant work experience, will have that much a better shot at top companies just because of how their resume is formatted and what type of wording/visibility they choose to give to their past work/skills.

This isn't to say that none of it matters either. Recruiters spend very little time on each resume, and obviously resume quality matters. But it just feels a bit disingenuous to hint or imply that your resume and some projects were what got you into Google, and not more important factors such as your school, your interview performance, etc.
