NASA Spacecraft Spots Star Trek Logo on Mars

Meteorologist Danielle Banks says what appears to be a Star Trek logo has been found on Mars. The HiRISE camera aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter captured the image.

"Enterprising viewers will make the discovery that these features look conspicuously like a famous logo: and you'd be right" The University of Arizona manages the High-Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO).

Hellas is the name that the ancient Greeks used when referring to their country Greece. On the other hand, Planitia is Latin means low plain. Therefore, the translation of Hellas Planitia is low Greek plain. Hellas Planitia is located within the huge, roughly circular impact basin Hellas located in the southern hemisphere of the planet Mars. With a diameter of about 1,400 miles and a depth reaching the lowest elevations on Mars, Hellas is one of the largest impact craters in the solar system.

The crater inside Hellas has been filled with material, which may be related to volcanic activity on the basin's northwestern rim. It also might be related to the presence of water and water ice. However, there is evidence elsewhere that the ground here is rich with ice.
