Best scene in Derek

This is my favourite scene in the channel 4 show: Derek.

I actually love how genuinely mad Karl was <3

I used to work weekends at a care home whilst I was at college and this scene makes me angry. I used to look after a man, he was 97 and he was a FEPOW Far East Prisoner of War, captured by the Japanese and made to work on the burma railway. He used to talk to me about it every day, we'd go through all his medals and photos etc and he'd just talk and I'd listen. Poor bloke used to have nightmares and everything.

One day a lot of staff had rang in sick so we had someone from an outside agency in to help out and I think she was Chinese but to him she looked Japanese and of course he instantly took a disliking to her and was shouting, very upset. It was clear everthing he had been through had scarred him for life.

Nobody used to come visit him, I thought he just had no family left and apparently on my days off he used to ask when's Tom next coming, the other carers told me.

Of course the day he died was very upsetting but I felt good that I'd been a friend to him. But I got so angry that day, never been so angry in all my life as people who never visited him before came crawling out of the woodwork and went rooting through his things, medals and all.

This scene upsets me because in some cases it's real and it's disgusting.

I work in a care home and believe me this is more true than people realise. Some families quite literally dump their parents off and can't wait for them to die to get their possessions., and the carers always get blamed for everything. it's sickening

as a carer; this scene speaks many words i wish i could say to familes who only come along when their parents aren't no longer here and grab whatever they can and no give a shit about their mam/dads.. its unbelievable how people can be so greedy

This scene is so bang on. I used to work as a manager in sheltered housing for the elderly. The times family would pop in for genuine, timely visits was rare. Course once they had popped their clogs low and behold everyone is there like vultures. The times I wished had reacted like Pilky here. If only you could go back and do it over.

This is amazing.
The writing of this scene, the timing of the putdowns, and the way KP let rip was without doubt the exact same way I think most people would react too.

Trouble is, her character is a caricature. I’ve met people like this through nursing.😔
