Ha! Tim Ferris isn’t the only one! I did it at a hardstyle certification in 2016. When I was re-certifying for StrongFirst that year, I switched to the Russian pendulum swing at around rep 60/65 in the five minute snatch test. I planned it all along because I had already started dabbling in Kettlebell Sport and knew that it was more efficient. I also knew that after one had passed the snatch technique portion of the test (just 5 per side), that they didn’t hold you to a hardstyle standard for the 100 rep/5 minute snatch test. So when I started to fatigue a little, I switched to the pendulum and finished all 100 reps in 4:25. It pays to know a little about both disciplines.

I did my first kettlebell workout 2 days ago and my swings felt terrible and my hamstrings were very sore too

I’ll do them again tomorrow and I’ll work on improving my technique and hopefully my body gets used to it too so I can do them more often

The kettlebell was burn in Russia in 18 century (standard weight is 16/24/32/48 Kg or 1/1.5/2/3 Pud)))).
P.S. good snatch technique

I was just thinking the other day about how many "deadlift start" swing sets I did in the mid-2000s not (quite) knowing any better. Almost identical to the video; good kb deadlift and then a couple mini-swings to get the weight moving.

Heh. Live and learn...

Why is the flytrap hand suboptimal? If it is just whilst the kettlebell is stationary does it make any difference?

Your point about the shoulder in flexion and internal rotation is interesting. It may be due to what your shoulders are used to because from the olympic weightlifters I've talked to they pretty much universally go into internal rotation when they do an olympic snatch or jerk. Granted it is anecdotal but I it's something I'm going to look further into.

4:30 I am guilty of doing this (wasting the first rep when doing swings) 😅

Swings and Snatches are two of my favorite ballistic Kettlebell movements though, so I haven't minded wasting the first swing before now...

The origin of the KB is here in germany? Didn't know that and like it! 💪
PS: I follow your channel nearly from the beginning and must say, your technique has improved since then so much, that you have become a real master and artist of the KB!

Talking about where kettlebells originated from, it could also be either 'halteres' used in Ancient Greece (700 BC) or Chinese 'stone locks' that seem to be from the Han Dynasty (202 BC – 9 AD; 25–220 AD). Sure, they were shaped from rocks, but the idea was the same.

Russians appropriating history is nothing new tbh.

Pavel may have brought kettlebells to the US, but Tim discovering Pavel is what brought kettlebells mainstream. Sole reason Pavel ended up on Rogan
