I love how no one gives a tupenny jizz about the billion slaves that exist in the world today - just preoccupied with a crime that neither the perpetrators nor victims are alive.

Reparations for crimes generations away is crazy. You can't punish people for something they had no say in.

Britain was the one that recognised for the first time that slavery was an evil that had to be stopped for moral reasons. Since the dawn of time, all nations have engaged in slavery. What Britain did was unique though.. from grassroots society up through government, it demanded an end to its own slave trade then used a significant portion of its wealth and influence (and lives of Royal Marines in the West Africa Squadron) to stop it happening elsewhere.
Britain with its slave trade was like someone handing themselves into the police for a crime, then volunteering to help others not to get into crime.
Most other countries should be considered more like the criminal that has to be caught and spend time in jail. If you have to demand reparations, do it from them… and it’s not an exclusively European thing by any means. it would include North Africans, Turks, Indians… the list goes on.

What about reparations from the African tribes who caught & then sold the slaves to the slavers? What about reparations from the Arab nations which served as the middlemen for this trade for many centuries? The most significant thing Britain did was STOP the slave trade with the RN. I think the Commonwealth should vote a message of thanks to Britain, the RN and the people of Britain who worked so hard to achieve this end.

Sorry but NEVER.Briitish people now that work hard to maintain our economy have enough of our money paid out on compensations and benefits. We should NEVER be financially punished for the wrongdoings of our past.British people NOW should never be forced to pay for ANY reparations.Financial help maybe in some form but Britain since those bad days have changed to help other countries. There were slave masters from the commonwealth we traded with for slaves who made massive money so dont put all the blame on us.

Got to think of excuses to send more tax payer money overseas. We will see a lot more redistribution of wealth before their Global Government starts.

Why pay for something that is not a sin? This is allowed by the Bible, so the actions were morally acceptable...right?
