Parrot Disco FPV Drone Flight Testing

In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew test flies the Parrot Disco fixed-wing drone. The review begins with the compass calibration procedure, following prompts from the Parrot app: FreeFlight Pro. The launch procedure involves pressing the “Take Off” button on the SkyController 2 and holding onto the aircraft while the propeller spins up. Make sure to keep your hand well away from the propeller. Once it is turning at full speed, toss the Disco into the air and it will automatically ascend. The Disco is easy to fly, using its on board sensors – including a compass and GPS receiver – to maintain a safe flight envelope. The aircraft cannot experience an aerodynamic stall, for example, and will not perform acrobatic maneuvers – making it idea for new fixed-wing pilots to learn. It also has the ability to loiter by flying in a circle around a fixed point. The Disco's nose-mounted camera is capable of capturing 1080p video, and uses a digital stabilization system that works well to reduce the impact of aircraft movement and vibration on the image.

I just purchased one of these because of the recent price drop.. I'm a quad guy, so this is my first fixed wing. After 2-3 minutes on the sticks, I felt confident enough to bring it down below the tree line, and promptly crashed and got it stick in a tree lol.. Luckily no major damage.. I really like the Disco, it's a nice change of pace from my quads, and helis.. Definitely worth the $350 I paid for it..

B and H has these for 428, is that the cheapest you can get them?

Could the Disco be flown and LANDED on an area the size of a high school football field - by a rookie?

Great vid, Patrick but I would disagree on one point. Despite the huge price drop this has had, I still would not recommend it as a first time trainer for $600. Horizon Hobby has several easy to fly planes with stabilization and panic recovery (Hobby Zone Mini Apprentice S is only $230). A person should always learn to fly LOS first. 🤓

You guys simply amaze me you are direct and to the point and I appreciate that. Would you be so kind as to produce a video that explains all the various acronyms associated with quad flying. Particularly those associated with race drones.

Your battery must be damaged, under worst case conditions you can fly at least 30 minutes unless you fly it full throttle almost all the time, which is actually quite fast but much less effective.
You can also cut out the battery compartment and insert a 4000 mA battery where you can fly around an hour or if you let it fly an autonomous track and it flies at its lowest stable speed, which is very efficient, you can let it fly for 1.5 hours and it will land in front of your feet. Make sure your autonomous flight incorporates landing against the wind, do some final wind adjustments if you have already pre programmed it and also include some 20-30 feet of overshoot, which it often does, depending on the wind conditions.
I can see that your camera has the same focus issue that one of my Discos also has. They are being calibrated at room temperature and for some reason they are very thermally sensitive and you will notice that your image clears up nicely on warmer days. Some cameras are being adjusted to handle cold weather with more clarity, but I guess they are getting blurry on hot Summer days.
I hope after some two plus years you still have it and enjoy it like I do.

have thought about it but, it has a small range does it not? guess you could hack the controller though.

I easily get over 35 to 40 mins on mine, have you just got one battery, maybe it is bad, I know some of these Disco's have been sitting on the shelf for well over a year, long time for a lipo in a low state of charge.

Surprised you only got 20 mins, as they advertise 45 mins. I wonder how this compares to the TBS CAIPIRINHA 2, which is a similar concept, but advertises a 90 mins flight time.

Damn! *NO* control at launch.. yeah.. that would freak me out as well.. probably more then less experienced pilots huh? :)
I must say I do very much like the looks of this bird.. What I do Not like is the price though :$
Great video again! Thanks for sharing :)

When parrot first introduced this aircraft I was very excited I thought parrot would do some pretty cool and Innovative things. But what parrot did is the same thing 3D Robotics did they cut most of their staffed drone staffed and now is not focusing on consumer drones but instead focusing on commercial. The parrot Bebop has not been redesign and over three years. To throw those customers who were hoping for something cool and innovative I highly doubt parrot steps up to the plate. This is why when it comes to spending your hard-earned money you got to stick with a company like DJI that I have been flying since the flame wheel. I am hoping that you guys do a review or find out more information on the fixed-wing aircraft all black carbon fiber you showed at the CES Show

20mins and parrot advertises it as a 45-minute flight time that is a major reduction as advertised good video

The official parrot website says 45 minuets of flight time

Yeah but 20 to maybe 30min is far from 50mins as advertised. That would explain Parrot laying off half of there drone development depth. They are not in it to win it

I think you broke your camera, my video looks crystal clear while yours looks very mushy and blurred
