I definitely like the idea of the big crunch much better than the universe ultimately becoming dark and cold without a single source of light and remaining that way forever. Personally, I think it's a cycle just like everything else in the universe. The big crunch will lead to a single point that eventually become a big bang, then a big crunch again, and so forth for all eternity.

I my self have a theory that kinda is similar to the big crunch
I think that because the universes expansion is getting faster, it could go so fast that everything also expands fast, faster than the speed of light which would make everything so hot that it destroys all matter in the universe thus making antimatter the dominant one of antimatter and matter. This in turn, flips the expansion of the universe which makes everything go back in time until the point. The Big Bang starts all over again and this cycles on forever and ever…

fun fact: the reason why universe expanding is the big bang's effect is still effecting galaxies and so the universe is slowly stopping to expand but i dont think so everything will come to same spot back and explode
