In this weeks golf tips video. Australian PGA Professional Brian Fitzgerald The Golf Doctor shows you how to hit a golf ball straight every time. To achieve this you need to do the opposite of what you think. Stop trying to hit the golf ball straight. Your need to work on your club rotation and turn the golf club through the hitting area. The best way to work on this is by having 60 practice swings a day.

My name is Brian Fitzgerald - I'm an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at two venues. The Morack Public GC in Vermont South and the Lang Lang GC in beautiful South Gippsland (An hour and a quarter from Melbourne) where there are lot's of Kangaroos.

FAQ:
How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don't feel that old.

Why do you make videos for YouTube? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.

Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.

So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.

What do you film with? - I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I'm using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.

What do you edit with? - About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere - prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio

Do you make money off YouTube? - Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.

Thanks for watching!
Brian

Watched a lot of YouTube golf videos and this was one of a few that was immediately really helpful. The tennis racket comparison was really insightful. I was really overcompensating. Thank you!

This video probably encapsulates the most common coaching conversation I have on a day to day basis. If I could recommend only one of my videos for people to watch this would be the one. Keep the club turning and your golf ball will go straighter.

This makes a great deal of sense. Will try it on the range tomorrow. I'm thinking that a "modest" grip, in terms of pressure will be helpful in letting the club head turn naturally.

Brian thx for this video, great idea. Near the end, you show an example of pulling the club through too far with face open. Is there a drill you recommend to prevent this in the full swing? Would seem like that Would require more hand release from the top but you hear so many people say take the hands out of it. Thx again!

This is a left field question here I do apologise

Would tipping a driver shaft 0.5 or 1 inch help to lower launch angle for more piercing drives?at times my driver tends to go a little high so I’m looking at reducing launch angle(I have a stealth 9 degree driver set in the upright position) with a kbs td catagory 3 shaft at just over 45 inches

Hi Brian. Love the vids. Just came across this vid. So would having a light grip help the club turn naturally? Maybe it’s obvious but just wanted to ask. I feel I get too tense then my point of impact changes. Sometimes I can hit the ground 4ins before the ball on the range but never when playing. Keep up the great work. Peter

Hey Brian, this may be why I get the shanks sometimes as you mentioned. I've told you before about my tendency to pull the shot. So when I'm worried about doing that, I hold off on the golf club and don't let the head release and do the chicken wing thing. So I just don't know really what to do....lol... I guess I'll just think about how I use to play tennis when I was younger. Just aim and forget about it and swing and let my natural roll of the wrists happen. If it goes 40 yards left it just does. But when there are houses along the fairways and roads and fences out of bounds it really can mess with you and your score. But maybe after a round or two it will straighten itself out. Merry Christmas bud.

I'm laughing my socks off. " Begins with S and ends with S " I was thinking shits. Of course it was shanks but for a minute I had a good laugh. Thanks Brian.

This style of swing also require a lot of timing. Or rear perfect timing. Is that why so many pro also going to body rotation to square the club instead of arm rotation?

Makes sense, now just have to remember that along with the other hundred motions...uh.
