My grandmother always said that only really dorky girls wore poodle skirts and that the pink ladies outfits were actual kind of close to what they wore.

I absolutely love the what they actually wore I would definitely wear it.

The point of the Pink Ladies was that they were rebelling. Sandy dressed appropriately the majority of the movie, there’s even a song about her being such a goodie two shoes.

Wasn't the whole point of her outfit in grease that it WAS NOT normal 😂😂 She went through that whole change from normal good girl to bad girl just to impress the bad boy. Thats the point of the movie 😂😂

The idea is that Sandy rebels when she’s dressed that way tho. There are plenty of outfits shown in the movie that are more like your demonstration on the right

First I love learning about vintage fashion and wearing vintage fashion. the channels that teach people about vintage vintage clothing and history and sometimes what people actually wore what people think they were which is very interesting and learning the origin of some pieces is also interesting I have my grandmothers high school cheer outfit from the50s
(edit wow that’s a lot of likes😱Ty )

my grandma went to school in the fifties and she told me they were allowed to wear pants one friday a month

My mom participated in a protest against her schools skirts only policy, by wearing (prepare your fainting couches) blue jeans. This was 1968.

Pretty sure Sandy was literally the only one who wore an outfit like that and having literally everyone be conpletely shocked at her appearance proved it was abnormal

My mother-in-law and her classmates all showed up in pants one day. They respectively asked the Mormon girl who couldn't to stay home that day (she did) and they officially and successfully changed the dress code from there on out. THAT is how you protest, kids.

My great grandma graduated in 1951 and she has plenty of photos for me to look at!

Didn’t realize anyone thought Grease was an accurate representation of the 50’s. It was also made in the late 70’s, that would be another hint it was stylized

Honestly Sandy's finale look is seventies it nearly makes me cry 😭

I'm convinced Sandy's outfit was actually 80s to 90s fashion. I've seen a picture of my mother in an outfit like it. She was born in the early 70s.

We couldn't wear any pants in our school until the 70s. Made for some really cold waits for the bus!

Ive seen pictures of what constituted for rebellious fashion in the 50s. They were so cool. I would love to see a video on that.

I love learning about old fashion, I’ll ask my grandmother a lot most of the time. She told me that when she was in school all the boys had to wear suits and all the girls wore dresses. The year she graduated (1969) was the first year her school allowed girls to wear pants, but they had to be formal dress pants.

Yes, that’s exactly what my mom told me and she would’ve been 4 to 14 in the 50s and she laughed and also said the poodle skirt was a pattern that was sold at the store so that if your mom sold then you could have a poodle skirt they didn’t actually sell them in stores and other girls had Skirts horse skirts, whatever mom could do

I was organizing old photos of my grandparents going way back, and the left side is definitely accurate to what my grandmother wore in the 40's and 50's.

My mothe4 said that the same skirt rule applied in the 60s, but not when it was freezing out (when it was just REALLY cold, she and her classmates wore snow pants under their dresses to walk to school and left them with their coats until the end of the day.)
