There are a lot of Atlantic Islands I dream of visiting, but most of them are way beyond my travel budget. Step forward Ponta Delgada in The Azores. Join me on a very early start in Edinburgh as I make my way to this beautiful destination only a couple of short flights away. Enjoy the video!

I don’t pretend to be a travel expert, but I love what I do and would be honoured if you came along with me. My channel focusses on the wide-eyed wonder and excitement of finding somewhere new, and my genuine reaction to it. You may not get a history lesson in my videos, but who knows, you might pick up some useful travel tips along the way, add a few destinations to your bucket list and hopefully be entertained by what you see. Thanks for watching, it means a lot to me :)

I do ALL of this myself. Planning, filming, editing, promoting, all with a weekly upload schedule, so please understand not every video will be an epic adventure. But my pledge is to always do my best in any situation and KEEP THE CAMERA ROLLING :)

FAQs:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up (in which case, likely to be Tuesday at 5pm)
WHY IS THERE A DELAY BETWEEN TRIP AND VIDEO APPEARING?
This is the reality of a weekly upload schedule, coupled with doing everything myself and sticking to a budget. Often I need to film 3-4 videos in one trip to make it cost-effective and that means a queue for the Saturday morning slot. This is just part of YouTube life I’m afraid, but I will only upload something if it still has value for you as a viewer. Please also remember I’m a regular guy with all the responsibilities of life and this can sometimes mean I need to keep emergency videos for times when that life gets in the way!
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotel prices especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman. Also my weekly upload schedule means I need to keep on the move.
WHERE'S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature whenever possible, but she has her own life and a 9-5 job so it can take a while for our schedules to match up. Trust me though, I prefer it when She is there too!
DO YOU PAY FOR YOUR OWN TRAVEL?
Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.
WHY THE ADS?
It's my income, I can't do this for free. Notice I don’t have mid-roll ads though!
CAN I CONTACT YOU?
I used to list my email address but felt bad not having the capacity to respond to everything so took it down (and I got a LOT of spam so missed many genuine messages along the way).
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE CHANNEL?
Watching my videos is of course support enough, but if you'd like to support further, I'll pop links in here for Paypal and Patreon. All kind donations are super-appreciated and will go 100% towards future filming trips.
DO YOU ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS?
I don't like to upset the flow of my videos, so I don't even include mid-roll ads anymore (at significant loss of income to myself), so I prefer not to include sponsorships either. I'm open to a small slide at the start/end of each video, but I don't want to get into talking about products, it's something I don't like as a viewer myself (especially as a viewer who pays for YouTube Premium). So it's probably a polite no, although all of this goes out the window if you offer me something which can give me the chance to make a video for my audience that would otherwise be impossible.

Hi Steve, I'm Marco from the Azores. I love your videos and I've been following you on YouTube for a while now. I'm originally from the island of Santa Maria but have been living in São Miguel for 20 years. I live in the village of Capelas, just 15 minutes from the city of Ponta Delgada. I was very surprised and happy to hear that you came to the Azores. If you're here on Christmas Day, I'd be happy to invite you to come and have lunch at my house with my family so that you don't have to spend Christmas Day alone.
Have a great holiday in the Azores!

The Azores are still on my bucket list. 20 years ago I came very close to go hopping all 9 islands with a friend. Didn't happen because we couldn't get a flight to one of the islands. Instead we went to mainland Portugal and saw some awesome stuff there (old rock paintings in a cave and outside in a gorge that took some doing to get there).

Since then my health deteriorated and income ditto but maybe one day huh? Meanwhile, I live vicariously through your videos, thank you for making them.

Merry christmas and best wishes for the new year to you and Alicja.

Oh my! That approach to the Azores was spectacular! I’m surprised Filson didn’t make the trip. That hotel was a screaming deal, in my mind. Looking forward to the next! Cheers, and ATB!

Looks very appealing viewing from snowy northern Michigan at a balmy -9C! Looking forward to seeing the next video. I know virtually nothing about the Azores! Seems very exotic!

There are only around 11, 000 inhabited islands in the world. If you run out of those, there are more than half a million uninhabited ones. After that, you'll have to explore the planets and their moons! I am looking forward to you videoing them all. Merry Christmas to you and Alicja.

As soon as I saw the video title I thought of the Azores. I went to Sao Miguel 7 years ago for a 10 day trip around the island and it was absolutely beautiful. Watched one the most beautiful night skies I've ever seen in my life, as well as enjoying the volcanic hot springs. Definitely one of the most memorable trips in my life! And indeed very affordable for such a remote place.

I cant wait to see your next video from the Azores. I've always wondered what it was like as when I was a child my mother had to stop there on her way from Canada to Italy, in the 50s. I always imagined it to be a desolate place but it certainly doesn't seem to be.
