No matter how old I get or how many times I see someone launch into space, I'm like a kid again glued to the TV. I watched the challenger go up when I was in 6th grade and remember the teacher gasp then immediately shut the TV off then walk out into the hall. While we were kids and didn't fully understand what had happened, we saw it and knew. Now, everytime I watch a launch there's that brief moment I wonder but then I realize how more technically advanced we are these days and all I can think about then is I wish I was strapped in that seat going up!

Anyone that has never seen a launch, in person, needs to put it on their bucket list. It is impressive. I watched a Space Shuttle launch in the early 1980s. I was worth the 8 hour drive there to see it happen in real life and not on a TV screen.

In addition to this monumental success by Elon's SpaceX, as a Harvard neuroscientist, I'm also incredibly excited about the prospects of Elon's NeuraLink that is projected to be able to employ as much as 10 individual 4-mm chips within one person's brain, each chip of which will have multiple nanowires capable of projecting to and innervating distal ad-hoc neural targets (~1, 000 neurons per chip). These nanowires will be able to spatiotemporally detect endogenous neuronal activity and simultaneously emit corrective current pulses to ameliorate various conditions, akin to what deep-brain stimulation is already providing for many patients with Parkinson's disease. Although many of the aims of NeuraLink that Elon has publicly delineated will likely not come to fruition anywhere near within the time frame that he's provocatively extrapolated, these efforts are paving the way toward some truly versatile technology that will eventually be able to mitigate many disease conditions and perhaps even augment certain aspects of healthy neural signaling. The latter would undoubtedly open up Pandora's box to a host of obvious caveats and ethical concerns. Therefore, thoughts on regulations would also come into the forefront at the advent of such a polarizing event, which will likely not occur within our lifetime. On a related note, I'm currently developing neuro-related vids for my forthcoming channel, the crux of which will be to provide realistic action steps for leveraging our brains to improve our lives. So feel free to sub in the interim if interested. 🧠⚡🤯
