I love this little car, be pretty handy for my commute to and from work and the shops. I keep clicking the Citroen Ami page and playing with the config options! Great little video!

I was today years old when I found out Ami means friend in French and I think I may have pronounced it slightly wrong in parts of the video.

It's not pointless. 🙂 Don't think of it as a car substitute; think of it as a bicycle built for two that you don't have to pedal. It gets you out of the wind and rain.

My objection to it is its price. Way too expensive. £2, 500 would be tolerable; eight grand is outrageous. Going back to the bicycle idea: my old Halfords bike cost £130, seventeen years ago; it's still going strong after more than 50, 000 miles of Yorkshire roads and weather (I ride 70 miles a week, every week, and I really, really hate cycling).

I've just built a two-wheeled bike trailer, and that'll take a week's shopping easily, or up to around 100 lbs of 'stuff' if I'm feeling fit and frisky.

Compared to whizzing about in the Ami, pedalling a bike is sheer misery. But it's cheap and, in my world, cheap wins every time.

It's barebones yet expensive for what it is and slow - It's not pioneering. If it could do 50 mph it would be better than the twizzy but with a 28mph limit it isn't worth the cost imo. Just a bad twizzy imitation if you ask me - The twizzy was pioneering. This isn't. In the UK its slow but we still need a license which defeats the purpose. We get the slowness with no license advantages. I believe you can get a faster version but no doubt it will be more expensive so might as well buy a pre owned leaf.

I wish I can have the Citroen ami in new Zealand. Unfortunately it wouldn't be road legal as it's far too slow for our roads and secondly the steering wheel placement.

It is actually a lot larger than I was expecting, seems around the same as the Mini @1.45m

Pointless or pioneering? Given those two choice I'll say pointless. For the USA market the range is too short to be practical, speed is too slow to be useful, no highway safety features, purt near uninsureable, cost is too high for a plastic Barbie's Dream Car. Other than that... it's swell - LOL

I can imagine this being modest fun in the South of France on the Côte d’Azur in winter (but if you’ve ever been there in winter, believe me it gets very cold & quite windy sometimes), but using this in midwinter even for brief local shopping trips even in the south of England (never mind the north of Scotland where I am) but when there’s snow on the ground there or in northern France (I lived in central Paris for sone years) it would be misery on wheels. Do another review early-mid February and let’s know how you feel then.
