As an American, I watch the decline in our infrastructure, family structure, job market, and society as a whole, and I have to ask- how can our government afford such extravagant military spending when American society is so obviously hurting?

Obviously, those in positions of power in this country are completely disconnected from those they mean to rule, and they are beholden to interests that have no concern for the American people.

Don't only blame global arms manufacturers only, see the Global report of September 2021:
"The largest importer of major arms between 2016 and 2021, Saudi Arabia, accounted for 11 percent of the global market. India followed with 9.5 percent of the market share".
So the countries who were importing the arms from their tax payer's money were equally guilty.
Especially for a country like India, which could improve its citizen's life by spending the money on health care, education, creation of jobs, etc. Look at the UNO report on India:
"India has not counted its poor since 2011".
"But the United Nations estimated the number of poor in the country to be 364 million (over 36 crores, more than the entire population of Pakistan & Bangladesh combined) in 2019 or 28 percent of the population. All the estimated new poor due to the pandemic is in addition to this".

"Also, as estimates point out, millions in urban areas have also slipped below the poverty line. Even the middle class has shrunk by a third, says Pew Center’s estimate".
"Overall, cutting across the population and geographical segments, millions of Indians have either become poorer, or poor or on the brink of becoming poor."
So don't blame only US & China.

It’s so sad to hear arms sales flourish when millions die without food.Where is humanity. Why mankind turning to evil.. some countries boast about humanity while making lethal weapons behind the screen.karma wins ultimately. Wait and see
