Cody Townsend takes big mountain skiing to an entirely new level, straight-lining one of the gnarliest vertical chutes deep in the Alaska Tordrillos Mountain Range, earning himself the "Best Line" award at the 15th annual Powder Awards, along with "Best Male Performance" and "Full Throttle" titles as well.

Red Bull Media House, in association with Matchstick Productions, present “DAYS OF MY YOUTH”, a new film that examines every skier’s lifelong affinity for the sport. Narrated to the prolific readings of Alan Watts, this film exposes the many joys and occasional struggles associated with a lifestyle built around skiing. Filmed over two years using state of the art techniques and technologies, this movie offers a unique glimpse into the journey of self-discovery that every skier experiences.

I could definitely get through that. I’m very confident that the slope is steep enough that at least some of my body parts would make it out the bottom

The camera angle doesn’t give the steepness any justice. So much crazier than you guys made it look

Just completed my beginner's day course for snowboarding. Think I'm about ready to try this out.

Literally a free fall without cohesion. I skied Corbets Collier back in the 70's and thought I arrived. This is a whole new level.

Yep. That's slightly above my skiing skills....

I'm surprised his balls made it through that tight opening at the end...

To put steepness in perspective: when he gets out of the “rock tunnel” the slope seems to get flat; then a few seconds later you realize that “flat” is ridiculously steep compared to real flat at the end of the slope! Crazy!!!

'The scariest thing I've ever done.'

The understatement of all-time.

Everyone in the comments who thinks this looks like a walk in the park; a GoPro has a 160•-180• angle so everything looks wider than it is, he is shooting out of the couloir in about 70MPH (which is fast in a groomed slope and this certainly isn't) and all the sluff at the bottom makes it a huge risk to even attempt, plus the steepness is over 60% of 90• wich is the limit for a ski to hold his edge. This is not something that everyone could do, nor is it anything everybody has done. Travis was first but didn't release the clip because it's feautured in his coming film, but to me it's amazing that two (!!) people thought about doing that line.. Totally insane and awesome!
Btw, they named it the Vigina for obvious reasons ;)

Pretty straight forward? No no no... You don't understand how incredibly steep that is. I don't care if the snow is perfectly smooth, that is a treacherous impossible line. There is no turning to slow your speed because its narrow. Absolutely insane

That last section of uncontrolled high speed no fall zone before the quick turn to avoid that wall.. insane

I think whats most incredible is how much he is able to slow down with such little room to work with. Anyone who has skied knows slowing down at all with that little of room is impossible for anyone who isn't extremely experienced.

I would be like a damn ping pong ball off those walls and they would rename the crevasse "meat grinder" after my demise.

I'm pretty sure I've done this as well...

At home, on my playstation, while playing steep

Obviously the opening view from the helicopter is striking, but if you pause at 0:15, it just looks outrageously steep and narrow. Love this video

This is bananas. My brain thought that the vertical fissures in the rock were horizontal. Absolutely insanely steep.

Balls of steel! No margin for error makes this a truly death defying feat!

That’s hands down line of the decade. Holy crap. Balls of steel. Nice work.

If you are going to risk your life, try and get Red Bull to pay for it before you do it. If you are going to do stuff that is borderline suicidal you might as well make some money.

I'm going for my 4th time ever Skiing on this Friday, and I'm trying to learn how to hockey stop. Seeing this gives me such confidence
