Mark's out of line, but he is right. While suddenly shifting to rust from c/c++ is a large step to take, considering 70% of security vulnerabilities come from memory safety violations, it's better to migrate to rust in the long term to reduce future headaches of fixing most of avoidable memory safety vulnerabilities.

C is a commendable language for its power, but I'm glad to see C++ slowly slipping out of people's minds. Of course the language will never die, I mean we even have COBOL still nowadays, but modernizing our technologies even if slowly and keeping some legacy code is a necessary step towards progress.

Rust is damn hard for me. There're lots of concepts to grasp. I'm at the final project in the Rust book.

I would say Mark is mostly right at this point. Obviously C/C++ is not going anywhere with all of the existing projects, but for new projects I would have a hard time not choosing rust at this point. There may still be some niche cases for starting a new project in C/C++, like if your using an embedded processor with no vender stupor for rust. There are probably some other cases as well that I’m not thinking of.

But beyond that some I would argue that you would need a very good justification to start a new project in C/C++, over rust

I thing the worst thing about rust is actually it's compiling time, and not actually the language itself. If rust is improved in this aspect it will be HUGE!!

Rust is the best programming language, period. Everyone knew that it was just that people waited for it to be stable and supported. But I think it does need an intermediate-level tutorial for people who want to understand design patterns, what exactly is the algorithm to check lifetime etc.

I would not overestimate Marks statement. Microsoft has already buried C++ once and came back.

Will the Rust compiler ever be written in Rust or will it always depend on LLVM which is written in C++? It seems odd to me that the Rust community is always dumping on C++ when they are entirely dependent on it to compile Rust programs.
