HOW LONG CAN YOU GO WITHOUT OXYGEN?

Why the Brain Needs Oxygen? How long can you last without air?
When someone becomes brain death, what really happens is the lack of oxygen in the brain causing inadequate energy to power the brain's cells, resulting in the loss of brain functions.
A few seconds of oxygen deprivation won't cause permanent or long term harm

Depending on the individuals, studies show that between 1/2 minute to 3 minutes of oxygen deprivation, you may lose consciousness
At the one-minute mark, brain cells begin dying.
At three minutes mark, neurons suffer more extensive damage, and there is a high chance that long-term effect will happen even when you recover
At 10 minutes mark, even if the brain still working, a coma and lasting brain damage are almost unavoidable.
At 15 minutes mark, survival becomes nearly impossible.

There are, of course, exceptions to every rule.
There are people out there who went through numerous training to help the body make more efficient use of oxygen, enabling the brain to go longer periods without air.

I’ll never forget waking up with broken ribs, thinking a dog was trying to eat me alive after being revived by CPR. It was the most horrific nightmare. EMTs didn’t understand how I was even alive. I had to be injected with antipsychotics because I began freaking out, trying to get up but I was too weak and would fall over immediately. I got up and hit my head so hard I got a bad concussion and had to be tackled to the ground by EMTs. All this from cardiac arrest and oxygen deprivation. Don’t do drugs kids. Seriously. Meth and cocaine tried to take my life several times. I had two heart attacks at the age of 22. Now I’m in recovery and hope I can help other people not fall down the same path of hellish destruction and death

In July the air conditioning went out of my car while on the interstate. Putting down the windows allowed enough air to flow through and I wasn't bothered. However, when I got to the exit ramp my chest felt heavy and breathing seemed difficult. I continued to drive thinking I could get air flowing through my car, but it was too hot (heat index over 95 degrees). I had also been diagnosed with sarcoidosis of the lungs two weeks prior to, but was totally uneducated on its affects. Long story short, I apparently lost enough oxygen to my brain to lose consciousness and I hit a tree head-on breaking several body parts. Everyone kept saying I "passed out, " but I was aware except for a few seconds--when I hit the tree. Everything from the point of the crash on was crystal clear. How long do you suppose I was without oxygen?

Thank you so much.
Some idiots got me to inhale a nitrous balloon at this bar 2 days ago & today I've been very anxious about it.
When I did it it had to grab the desk & it felt like my body was falling asleep on me & it also felt like I was outside my body.
Please tell me that I'll be alright with no long term damage😭

Well I had lost ability to breath after epidural prior C section. I believe it was about 40-80 seconds with no leftover air in lounge. But I was awake.
Outcomes: 3+ years PTSD where I literally am trapped in surgery room with no air and searching for someone to look long enough in my eyes to understand because 1) I could not speak or give a sound because it need oxygen 2) I could not move head because it would take away my last chance by eating off oxygen 3) I could not show because they tided both my arms side to side before it started(for needle security they said) 4) my lower body was paralised from epidural
....
MRI T2 frontal lobe left local annormality wich they said is just related to age(41)... I am in my minds prision from that day, avoid going out, flasbach 24/7, paranoid to medical staff, avoid social contacts, 24/7 in selfprotecting mode and alertness, sudden cry untill no breathing and much more. Nobody knows.... I am afraid to speak out and be punished in next medical visit like it has been done already...i just have meltdown after each off such speak out till cant breath.. I cant get out from that room...Frozen totally

So far we can go a little over a year without oxygen and counting, we'll see how much longer we have to wear masks.
