New York City has been plunged into complete darkness after a major power failure brought Manhattan to a halt.

The power outage affected more than 70,000 people and caused disruption to businesses, theatres, and the subway system.

People had to be evacuated from buildings and rescued after getting stuck inside elevators.

The New York City Fire Department said a transformer fire was behind the widespread power cut, but the causes of the incident are still being investigated by authorities.

The power failure comes on the anniversary of the last major outage that left most of New York City without power in 1977.

Meanwhile, America, a nation of over 320 million, was plunged into a news blackout Saturday as the media could only talk about NYC’s outage, even when as few as 40, 000 were being affected, half of what Hurricane Barry was doing in Louisiana 🤷‍♂️

What about the major power outage of the east coast? We went without power for almost 3 days.

I feel bad for anyone who was flashing or updating their bios at the moment of this outage.
