This is fun stuff, and there are many ways to modify your kit as you see fit. James Gurney has many great tips on his YouTube channel as well. I draw a lot on the subway, and carry gouache and watercolors on my bike.

One thing that I tend to carry is watercolor postcards. A good sturdy paper and tend to hold up well in my pack. Also Blackburn makes a tool wrap that holds pens. Sharpener and my paints perfectly.
