I’m pretty sure the cotman is less lightfast, and has less binder so it can be a tad bit chalkier than the professional version. But I think that’s it, so they’re a really good alternative!

I have mainly the cotman ones with just a couple of pro ones, and I've noticed it's just easier to get a stronger colour with the pro ones. In other words, it's more pigmented in my experience.

I got given a huge Windsor and newton watercolour pallet a couple years ago. It was used a little bit, but still had so much paint in it
my piano teacher (who was about 75-80) gave me it cause she knew I loved art
She was amazing at painting and I have fond memories with her

I have the student version because at the time I was travelling a lot and wanted to paint. It's lasted me ages, I think at least a few months now and it's still doing great.

I have a cotman kit from like 10 years ago. I still have it and it still reactivates great! It doesn’t come with a black though. I had to buy a tube. The tubes reactivate great too!

One of my favorite students came to visit me one day somewhere in/after basic training. She was doing so wonderfully well, back to the ol' hometown before being sent to Afghanistan, I believe. The only problem was a distinct lack of art supplies.
I had a version of this field case and couldn't think of any better use than to send it with her. I don't know if it would be considered contraband, but she sent me a little sketch of what she saw from her one-person studio.
It's a prized possession that reminds me how amazing it is to be a teacher. Being able to help students go out into the world with skills that give them confidence makes me smile every time ☺️

I use a mix of Cotman and professional from them. From the years of using them, I noticed that the professionals are easier to reactivate and have a higher punch of pigment.

I’m so excited! The first thought I had when you opened up the pro one was “I want that” -Bobby Duke Arts Voice but then you said the price and I was sad then happy again to see the student version! Haha such a rollercoaster!

Thank you a lot for this, I am not an art student...but a hobby artist with equally limited money and I am very grateful that you consider comparing these to your higher quality ones to share with us.

I’ve been using the Cotmans since I was in college and they’re great. I haven’t seen any fading in my work from back then (graduated in 2016, so it’s been several years and they’ve held up well!)

Thank you so much for sharing this! My fiance loves to paint but it's hard to pack it all up for camping. Her birthday is Monday and this is perfect!

I’m a young artist and I use winsor newton cotman watercolours as my everyday paints, in a palette very similar to that one. I’ve never had any issues! They go on smooth, I don’t have any problems with them being cakey, they blend well, all the good stuff! They’re the best watercolours I’ve ever used, and they’ll probably be my go-to for a long time!
