Ghost posting: Why are companies adding fake job listings?

These posts are added by legitimate companies but are listed with no intention by the businesses to ever fill the positions, leading to people not only taking time to apply but to interview for a job that doesn't actually exist.

As Global's Sean Previl reports, business experts say it's a bad method to employ because when those companies that used fake listings start looking to hire for real, applicants may not want to bother applying at all.

Ghost posting costs applicants time, energy and resources. It’s incredibly exploitative and deceptive and needs to be addressed.

They should be prosecuted and pay applicants compensation!

I always figure this is where the government says new jobs were added lol

Should be illegal, been looking 9 months, keep seeing same ads for same companies.

Easy way to solve this. Require companies to fill that job opening that they post in a year max. Penalty is paying out $100 to each applicant who has applied up to that point.

Peeps, this has been going on for YEARS. Not just in Canada, but America

This isn't really a new practice. They also do this for the job positions that were already filled in by networking. The worst case comes from government work positions.

Fake job listings. Do they mean LMIA jobs for international students from India? Because I see more of those than actual jobs nowadays.

That will backfire on businesses and companies for sure.

This is common practice among hiring managers from India. Thanks Trudeau from bringing so many Indians over.

A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document that an employer in Canada may need to get before hiring a foreign worker. A positive LMIA will show that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job. It will also show that no Canadian worker or permanent resident is available to do the job.

It’s there way of paying the worker less

Why are they allowed to do that at all?

HR ghosting is another real thing which ongoing. HR makes you to do everything and once either your are waiting for the main interview or if you have already given an interview they just stop responding.
