the guy is a really good actor. You can see the pain and the conflict in his face and at the end when he started crying? holy shit I felt that. Amazing, amazing acting.

The actor playing the lawyer is brilliant though.

When he said “I have absolutely no excuse to be sad” I felt that in my core because that’s how I feel everyday when I just wanna cry in a ball and die.

This is a case of dysthymia, or high-functioning depression, where the individual is still functional (can still do his/her daily routine). Hiding the fact that he's depressed is one sign of this condition.

But why would they leave a suicidal man in a room alone wearing a tie?

The psychiatrist is one of the reasons I tune in to this show. An empathetic, compassionate & understanding voice and ear for people who suffer from mental illness and depression goes a long way. Oliver Platt was made for this role. I have learnt so much from this show.

That lawyer was such a good actor, i feel like he actually cried at then because of the script. You can see the shame and pain in his face at the end.

This made me really think about myself because I pretend that I'm at peace with myself when I'm really not

The pretending one does while depressed is what harms and drains the most. Depicted perfectly. Spot on.

This hit me right in the feels, especially the end.
I battled with depression and did it for years without knowing it BUT I always hide the pain and sadness behind a wall. I never let anyone see it. It slipped out at some times, but when talking to professionals about what hurt, about the main cause, didn't help I shut the world out. I gave up and kept hiding behind my smiling mask. Bottling it all up.
But my walls crumbled eventually. One person who saw the signs broke through the wall with force, much like this doctor did, and made me admit to myself that I'm not alright. And that's alright. You don't always have to be alright. It's okay to not be okay. And that helped so much and now I finally feel better than I have in many years!

The way the lawyer seemed so fragile after he dropped the facade makes me want to hug him really bad 😭

That's literally how I broke down in my therapy session. Everything's fine until they start validating your internal feelings in that calm understanding The tears start silently

This is disturbingly accurate. People with depression hide their illness so well that one day they seem all bright and cheery, the next minute they've killed themselves and you have no idea what went wrong.

If you are sad it doesn't matter whether or not you think you have a 'valid' reason to be sad.
What matters is that you feel sad. You should never think that your feelings are your fault, or that you don't have a 'good' reason to be sad. There is no good reason to be sad. If you're sad, you're sad, and you deserve help.

"He's successful"

So were tons of many people who ended up committing suicide.
