I'm going to do a full track mix down without using my headphones or monitors to listen to the mix. This will use visual cues to help you understand how to mix your music without good quality headphones or speakers, by using your eyes to help make mixing decisions.

Comment below if you actually LIKE mixing or if you prefer the writing process! (I love a good mix down session)

Man, I'm speechless. This was some Beethoven level shit (making music while being deaf). The whole idea sounded silly first (no pun intended), but then I realized this was the best simulation of a beginner. See, I am deaf compared to your experience so all these extra information and rules of thumb can help land a noob at least in the ballpark. One of the best mixing tutorials ever. Wow, just wow!!

I'm a big fan of using various visual analysers for getting the volume of high end frequencies right, because I'm old and my ears are fucked when it comes to stuff above 10-12kHz, but I hadn't ever considered trying to balance the low end and mix without actually listening to it. I'm quite amazed at how well you got things to go together just from visual feedback alone. I guess that years of experience help you to translate the numbers and graphs on screen into how it will sound.

I do like mixing to a degree, I am working on improving that skill set currently. Enjoyed the video, a fun thing to see and a good display of how visual tools really are helpful rather than just using your ears.

Fantastic video. Love it! Using reference tracks is definitely something I need to get better at.

great video! How do you map the span and see two channels at the same time with different colors, so you can compare?

In the Loudness & Balance Test, where can you see that you're at -6db of headroom? @24:15

HI Dowden, great video really love it. Beside the fun aproach you took it is just one of the best mixdown workflows I have ever seen on youtube. One question about the headroom and sending the files for the mastering. Are you rendering those with +6db on, or you move it to 0 (I suppose)? Thx for the confirmation!
