A fish can take an evolutionary path where it grows legs and lives in bogland. A fish with legs can stop using them and they start to become vestigial. What exactly is getting triggered between the generations to tell the n+1 offspring genetics which large scale physical features need to be selected in the next generation!? What is the optimization algorithm that's at play here? Where is the data getting stored?
