Have you ever created a SICK melody or riff, and then thought... "ok, well, what next? What chords would work to accompany this?". Well here you go 😉 This video will help you out with just that. I'll show you all of the available chords that you can use to help assist your melody, show you which ones have the strongest pull, and how to use them to manipulate the listeners expectations.

ABOUT ME
﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋
Hey! My name is Darryl Syms, and uh, well, I play guitar! I mean, I do a bunch of other cool things too - hopefully you can get to know me a little bit more through some of my videos.

On this channel, I predominantly post instructional videos to help inspire and encourage like-minded guitar players. My goal is to help you expand your musical vocabulary, to broaden your understanding of music, and to entertain. There are already thousands of guitar related videos out there, but I try to set my videos apart from the usual by exploring a modern approach, and by simply being myself! 💁♂️

I hope you enjoy what I have to offer, and I look forward to growing as a musician with you!

Thanks so much for reading! 💜

One of the best lessons on this subject I've seen on YT. Great job, Darryl, and thank you.

Wow!! I never knew that rhythm guitar would be this interesting.. I always thought solos were the time and space i would spend time working on but tq to you Dryl for giving more knowledge about how interesting n fun rhythm guitar can be in fact it makes the solo come to life more.

Darryl, when you write songs, do you write chord first or melody first?

At 2:22 you say II dim, but you actually play II dim7 chord. I'm assuming the naming is for simplification's sake, but it confused me a bit, because when I think of a 'regular' diminished chord I think "b5 and b3!" (in this order) and not "bb7 b3!" :)

Great lesson otherwise :)

I have a question. What if I used a scale instead of a key to create my chords. It doesn't look like there are any sharps within that key when he makes his chords.

I just want to play a melody and add chords to it without overthinking which note I’m playing and which chords work. Isn’t there a more intuitive way?
