This is a video that illustrates the spanning tree protocol. Spanning tree protocol is a network protocol used to create a loop-free topology for bridged LANs. The protocol was designed to increase the availability of network connections, and reduce the amount of network traffic.
Spanning Tree Protocol is a protocol for loop avoidance in any bridged local area network. A network loop can arise when there are two or more paths between two end nodes. Each path can carry data for the same protocol, so the loop is a logical topology loop, and not an actual loop in the wires. Spanning Tree Protocol was designed to detect loops and shut down the redundant links, and optionally re-converge on a new loop-free topology. The original IEEE 802.1D standard and its updates are the most widely implemented versions of Spanning Tree Protocol in use today.
Spanning Tree Protocol ( STP ) is a network protocol that prevents loops, which occur when you have multiple links among switches.
Also, It stops the Broadcast Storms, Multiple frame copies & Database Instability.
In this animation video, you will understand the working of STP in switching, by :
โข Selection of Root Bridge
โข Selection of Root Port
โข Selection of Designated Port & Non Designated Port
