Mr. Rogers is Transphobic? | TERFs and Celebrities

There's an active attempt by TERFs and right-wingers to coopt Mr. Rogers into their transphobic beliefs. Using old clips of him addressing the fears of children to say he would have strick views on sex and gender today.

Why do you bring him up if you don't care what he says? Your just hetrophobic and intolerant but everyone must tolerate you.

Mr Roger's was a man that could simply perceive reality, facts, truth. He also had a talent for expressing that in the clearest most direct possible manner.

I not sure people who didn’t grow up watching him can truly understand the great impact and influence this man had on making children feel good. When it comes to myself, the mere sight of Mr. Rogers makes me emotional and gives me an “everything is going to be okay” feeling. Fred Rogers would not of wanted his image used in any negative approach against any person or group of people on this planet, especially children. If a child told him they were trans I believe Mr. Rogers would get down eye level with them and calmly talk to them about how they might be feeling, listening to them attentively and then choosing his words carefully as to have the most positive effect he could on them as a human being, no matter who they are. I don’t know what he would say but I do know he would let them know that it’s okay to feel how they feel and that they are one of a kind and fine just the way they are.

I personally think that if Mr rogers was still around he would have 100% have evolved his view when he understood things like trans and nonbinary, I am a teacher’s assistant in a preschool and I can guarantee that some littles do have that fear of their body for some reason changing sex, because they don’t understand gender and sex. Mr rogers definitely was an amazing and loving and accepting man and I hope he rests in peace.

Challenging cultural gender norms is very different than affirming that people can change their sex. I agree Mr. Rogers would be compassionate towards trans people because that's who he is, but its very presumptuous to claim he would condone what's occurring today where kids are being encouraged to explore alternate gender identities rather than being encouraged to accept their body and gender as it is from birth.

Mr Rogers was the physical embodiment of the Golden Rule, Treat others the way you wish to be treated yourself

Mr Rogers was saying what people in every culture through documented history believed until the recent movement.

Thanks for helping kids not become mental cases.

It’s also important to add that Rogers later changed his stance, saying he was wrong and advising Clemmens to have relationships with men since that clearly made him happier.

I just want to point out that Mr. Clemmons said in an interview that Mr. Rogers told him one day that the end saying of I like you just the way you are was for him and that he had been speaking to him for years. meaning he did care that he was gay. something to look into.

yes we know the objective is to deconstruct everything. we get it, and we get that you all have been neglected by not having a thoughtful caring figure like Mr Rodgers in your lives.

Many comments here have no right to say they learn or take after Mr. Rogers. He is first and foremost a role model that helps children process feelings and experiences much like a therapist. I do not see in the comments the approach of understanding and civility he teaches. I think everyone in the comments cares deeply about children, where society is going, and doing what is right. But, just as Mr. Rogers says, "It’s great to be able to stop, When you’ve planned a thing that’s wrong, And be able to do something else instead." I know you care and I know it hurts when the world feels like it is doing something wrong. Dealing with your anger and talking with people with compassion is far more likely to help and create results that you can be proud of and even those who disagree with you may be proud as well. Being a good person and being right do not always come hand in hand. Being the best you that you want to see, is the most right thing to me.

Isn't it amazing how people love to take clips and segments from something, remove most of not all the context, and then post it as a way to prove their point/show them as right in their opinions/ascertations, despite them removing most of the context that led to that clip/segment

I've seen this clip lately on youtube shorts being reacted to by various people. Ben Shapiro is one who springs to mind. I've got to say, your view on the subject is pretty much what I thought. Mr Rogers was a genuinely caring man. His mantra could not be any clearer than with that famous line, 'I like you just the way you are'. He had his faults but also clearly grew and learned from them. For people to use an out-of-context clip from 40+ years ago to promote their own bigotry, while also smearing the name of Mr Rogers, is actually quite disgusting and disrespectful. Hatred against anyone is something he would never endorse.

I feel like the characterization of Mister Roger as somewhat homophobic is slightly misguided and might be missing some information. I won't deny that he did advise Clemmons to marry a woman and that he should hide his sexuality on the show, but he did later change his mind and encouraged Clemmons to live his life openly after the Stonewall riots and also welcomed gay friends of Clemmons to the studio. I've also heard that Mister Rogers personally didn't find it appropriate to discuss sex in his show, which is why Chemmons was told to hide his sexuality on the show. I think personally, Mister Rogers, given the era, the beliefs of his time, delt with homosexuality in the best way he knew how to, and despite seemingly believing things we know to be wrong today, he did his best and that's all we can ask of people.

People thinking Rogers would have been transphobic are the same people that need to watch more mr. Rogers. He taught love and tolerance.
