the song is about body positivity, the point of the mommies and daddies line is to bring up a unique idea, like saying smokey the bear saying “only you can protect forest fires, ” it’s not literal, and at the time it was considered very honorable to be a parent. also, Mr Rogers was a bisexual man and very adamant about his support for the lgbtq+ community. during the civil rights act he said, to a gay co-star, “The world doesn't really want to know who you're sleeping with — especially if it's a man. You can have it all if you can keep that part out of the limelight.” during the 60s this man already was ahead of the times, of course he wouldn’t be transphobic nowadays.
