Planting Bur Oaks in Rootmaker Pots

I planted Bur Oak acorns in Rootmaker root pruning pots. I used my seed mix with Micronutrients and fertilizer. I will follow up this video with updates as the Bur Oak Acorns begin to sprout. I also give the first glimpse into my backyard nursery. It is still a work in progress but it is getting there.

Great video. Love that you’re growing trees from your Dad’s tree. I’m in inland central coast California and saw 2 Bur oaks in a parking lot randomly. This year they dropped the massive batch so I harvested hundreds of them. I’m on a ranch and plan to plant a ton of them. It may sound odd but these are some of the most edible acorns. Not as flavorful as regular nuts but you only have to shell and soak them once. Then can toast them or grind into flour. Zero irrigation, fertilizer, pesticides. Incredible nutrient profile of fats carbs and protein.

Now all you have to do is worry about squirrels digging up the nuts and carrying them off. I have to screen mine in.

I think coconut coir works better than peat and soaks up water faster.
