I wanna say it is logistically impressive that they were able to get rid of the whole arc with Laboon. No Crocus, no explanation for why Vivi would be stowed away on their ship, or why the Merry now has a damaged mast.

Honestly, as much as people joke about the iceberg, I feel like realistically 4Kids would probably be able to just have Brook's backstory be Laboon's introduction instead. Now, certain OTHER things about his backstory, they'd need to change...
