Why EA hates BMW so much?

as iconic as the M3 GTR is, we can all agree it's also one of the unluckiest cars in the series

- got keyed by a cop
- taken away by the owner's biggest rival
- crashed
- rebuilt but was left to rot in a las vegas-like city
- taken by a corrupt cop
- now in the hands of its original owner’s rival again

The story goes like this.

The player started out as a street racer in Palmont City. Darius recognised the player's skills and took him into his crew where he also met Nikki. Since the player was so good at evading cops, winning races and Nikki becoming more interested in the player, Darius felt threatened by the player's ambition to own all of Palmont. In the final race for Palmont's territory control, Darius gave the player a spare Supra while setting the player up for being hunted by the cops. The cop sting went without a hitch with Darius bribing a cop to help the player escape while switching the money bag so that everyone comes to regard the player as a thief and traitor who tipped off the cops. On his way out of Palmont City, he meets an old friend who had been customising a rare BMW M3 GTR. Impressed with the work, the player asks his friend to give him the car and that he will pay for it later, leaving Darius' Supra with him as collateral. Armed with the new and more impressive car, the player ventures into nearby Rockport to earn cash to pay his friend and settle down at Rockport as a professional street racer. So the player was angry when Razor cheated and stole the BMW since it was a one of a kind ride that was not available at shops anywhere in Rockport or Palmont. Meanwhile, the player's friend sold off Darius' Supra when he became strapped for cash, since the player has not returned for a long time from Rockport and believed him to be in jail. However, the police heat at Rockport was too high for the player after defeating Razor and he left the town and headed back to his friend who accepts the remainder of the payment needed to cover the cost of the BMW after selling the Supra. The player's friend also relates about how his final race opponents Kenji, Angie and Wolf have now become owners of areas in Palmont. Since the player was confident in his skills, he heads over back to Palmont to restart his career as a street racer. Cross who was angry at the player due to losing his job at Rockport Police Department, takes a different route towards Palmont and encounters the player at Carbon Canyon and attempts to take him down, resulting in the totalling of the BMW due to damage accumulated over time...

To all the confused people, yes, the M3 GTR dies, but it's not the player who kills it. There's a cut clip of Carbon where before leaving, Cross deliberately rams back into the M3 totalling the car and then laughing about it says "Ooh! Damnn my bad hehehe!"

Fun fact: The Toyota supra which the protagonist used during the race against Kenji, Wolf and Angie was going to win anyway, not because of the protagonist abilities but because his car was level 3 XD. This game along with the previous one were my favourite NFS games.

In the original story script and betas for carbon, the player was supposed to get the GTR back within the story. You would use the various crew members you recruited to help rebuild it before your duel with Darius.

I wish people would realize that NFS Underground 1 and 2 have nothing to do with NFS Most Wanted and Carbon, the protagonist in MW and Carbon is the same character but in Underground 1 and 2 it's a completely different character
