Two of the world's largest semiconductor manufacturers, Samsung Electronics and TSMC, have discussed building huge chip-making factory complexes in the United Arab Emirates.
The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources, reported this on Sunday and stated that the South Korean tech giant is considering the UAE construction in the coming years.
WSJ added that the Taiwanese company mentioned its complex will have features found on some of its most advanced facilities in Taiwan.
Under the initial terms being discussed, the projects would be funded by the UAE, with the total value of the two expected to exceed more than 1-hundred billion U.S. dollars.
Though the goal is to increase global chip production, as discussions are still in their early phases, the projects may face technical obstacles moving forward.
