Australian Shepherds are ridiculously smart. My neighbors have one, never on a leash except for walks, never leaves the yard; one time, my mom asked him to "take me your family, " and he led her straight back to the deck where they were.

The first dog I ever owned was an Australian dingo. I know these are not recognized as an official dog breed, and some say they are not actually dogs. I will say, though, that she was brilliant. By far the smartest dog I have ever known. She understood a lot of human language, not just spoken by me, but by my friends who would visit, which never failed to amaze them. She also did her best to talk, and would go to the door and say "out" when she wanted to go out, and go to her bowl and say "more" if she was hungry. If one did not respond quickly enough for her liking she would follow that with "now" or "out now" or "more now" her pronunciation was not perfect since her mouth was very different from a human's, but she was understandable. I could go on about her bravery, and her friendliness with anybody whom she saw I accepted as no threat. For sixteen years she was my dearest friend and companion. She has been gone for many years, and I miss her still.

The Shetland sheep dog shown looked more like a rough collie, ie "Lassie" to me, certainly the larger dog first shown, not the smaller one on a lead. The rough collie should have been on the list and near the top.

I have always had border collies and mixes of. Not a breed for someone that can’t give them time, love, and direction. But so rewarding if you can handle them correctly and have room for them.
One of our current males is a BC/ Queens land healer mix. One of the smartest and nicest dogs I’ve been blessed to have. ❤
This is a good list you made 👍🏼. Thanks for bringing attention to these wonderful canine companions.
I would suggest two other breeds that could easily be added : Australian shepherd and Belgian malinois. 🐾🐾

I agree with the sheepdog as I visit one. I think the owners have lost interest in him he has already been rescued by someone who knows what he was going through and then given to this couple who had 2 dogs already and it was lovely to watch them all walking like a little pack but the other two dogs died and now the owners have lost interest in him when I went to see him what I saw was a little lonely dog just constantly put in the garden with an old toy to keep him amused he never gets walked by them even though he only has 3 legs 😢he’s so intelligent loving and has a lot of energy but nothing to release it ❤

I have to agree with your selections. I have a pug, a golden retriever and a border collie. My border collie is the smartest dog I’ve EVER seen. He’s amazing in what he understands.
My golden retriever is really smart also but she lacks the seriousness and patience of observation skills (to assess full situations before acting) of my border collie and my golden retriever doesn’t recognize as much of the English language as my border collie.
My pug isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed but lovely nonetheless. Lol

I have a standard poodle. I'm still not sure if he's the smartest dog ever, or the dumbest. But it's definitely one of those.

Most obedient, not smartest. Many dogs working far from owners make their own decisions and smart. For example, livestock protection dogs, hunting sighthounds and hunting Laikas. Sled dogs save lives of their owners, making right decisions and find home in Blizzard. Wolves are smarter, then dogs, but they are not obedient.
