In this video you will be shown how to combine 2 ratios into 1 triple ratio.

Example 1 says in a bag there are red, blue and green counters . The ratio of red to blue counters is 4:5 and the ratio of blue to green counters is 2:11. Write down the ratio of red to blue to green counters.

Since you are given the blue part of both ratios find the lowest common multiple of 5 and 2 which is 10. So the blue part of the combined ratio is 10. To get the red parts multiply 4 by 2 to give 8. To get the green part of the ratio multiply 11 by 5 to give 55. So the ratio is 8:10:55.

Example 2 says in a village the ratio of bungalows to flats is 5:8 and the ratio of houses to bungalows is 6:7. Write down the ratio of bungalows to flats to houses. This time you are given the bungalow part of both ratios, so find the lowest common multiple of 5 and 7 which is 35. This means multiply first ratio by 7 and the second ratio by 5. This will give a final answer of 35:56:30.
