Deep Cleaning The Interior Of My 31 Year Old BMW E30 Was a Complete DISASTER! (First Clean Ever)

Cleaning the interior of My 1989 BMW 325is was a nightmare! It was important that I do this as part of the restoration process to seen how much of the interior was salvageable. Essentially, the more I can bring back to life, the more money I'd end up saving in the long run. Not even me (the owner of the car), expected it to be this bad. Nonetheless, I spent 6 hours deep cleaning the interior and the results were shocking!

Can’t wait to see the final outcome of this project car. These videos definitely encourage me to start a project car after I’m done with my current.

I am old AF, but I have been using simple green for years it seems to work pretty good.
I have a 69 Plymouth GTX 440 my dad bought it new. When he died in 1985 he gave it to me, it still looks brand new.

Same exact color and model as mine, except mine is a 1990. Btw, the vacuum boot is a really common failure point on those m20 motors, the rubber gets old and starts splitting at the seams (failed on my previous e30, a 325e). I'd also be willing to bet the car didnt get a valve adjustment every 25k like you're supposed to as well. I personally don't have any issues with the motor on mine, but it's
also my dd and I don't care about driving it super fast anyways. Those mufflers on those cars, those will always be the first thing to rust out hardcore (one of the tips on mine actually rusted off completely so it's just a hole on the right and the tip on the left lol, probably next on the to-do list). Wiring for aftermarket decks can be totally hairball so it's good that the one in the car already works. Wiring in general for old bmws can be kinda screwy, my power locks don't work (very likely a ground issue or something, tried putting in working actuators and they lock and unlock erratically so opted to just keeping in manual locks for now till I decide to deal with that rat's nest). Also if you're considering keeping the G260, obviously check the synchros. 2nd and 4th are common wear gears.

Regardless, there's tons of support for these cars online because of their wide appeal, and lot of the maintenance things you can do yourself because of it.

I don't know what it is with your videos, but everytime I watch them, I feel less stressful and anxious. For that, I appreciate you 🙏.

A tip w getting the seats to function properly when pulling the lever. There is a thin rod underneath the seat that connects left to right side. Right now it’s a straight rod. Remove it and Bend it in like a “V” so the distance of the rod between left and right is shorter. It will allow the teeth on the seat to move on the rails properly and evenly left/right

Hey bud, worked a day with you a couple years back at a service desk near dis springs. That day we ended up talking car shows and bmws all day long while you had a trainee. Loving the content and stoked you got an old Bmw. My first Bmw growing up was a 1987 325i convertible. Loved that car bud. Keep it up!!

I just came across your channel . You should go with the restoration. I have a 89 conv that I have been working on. I'm always interested in what the everyone else is doing and how they are doing it to their E30. Especially when you have access to a BMW garage.

That door handle reminds me of those retro Computer cases. They get yellow over time. There is a system that you could use for that. Google Yellowed plastic cases. They have a in-depth cheap way to bring back plastic from the dead. Check it out. It's 40 percent creamy Hydrogen peroxide (Sally's Beauty) and you leave it out in the sun wrapped in saran wrap, or under a UV light to activate it. It works great on those old Retro PC Plastic yellowed cases to like new. Might be worth a try.
