My neighbor gave me the opportunity to fix up his old truck, and I gladly accepted. His 1978 F150 has been in his family since it was new, but it hasn't been thoroughly used or maintained in a while. On a small budget, let's see what it needs to be reliable again.

My grandfather had a '78 Ford F-250 camper special, with the round headlights most of my life. It was his work vehicle. He was a programmer, but often did side work and he purchased and renovated several old properties over his life. My grandfather is notoriously bad at maintaining his vehicles, and I don't ever recall him working on that truck. Never once failed to start or left him stranded. Unfortunately, once he retired the truck sat in my families yard for years and rotted badly. By the time i was driving age i asked if i could have the truck to restore for myself, but it was so rusted underneath it wasnt worth saving. Always loved this style of Ford though. Beautiful design. Great video.

The days when you could actually sit in the engine bay. Loved the size of these trucks.

I don't know how old you are but you remind me of being 18 working in the drive way fixing cars. So happy to see kids these days doing this. You're going places with that can do attitude. Keep it up.

Brings back memories. I had a similar truck, same year, same color, same engine, same rear bumper, same saddleman seat covers, same steering wheel cover. Mine had 4 speed overdrive and was a short bed. I miss that truck.

I love this kid. I love the lack of boisterous, voiceover narration. I love the lack of stupid loud, dramatic music. I wish you had an Amazon wishlist. I’d buy him a proper shop vac. Leave the house vacuum in the house! In an age, when many people get free money from the government for protesting anything, this kid has next to nothing and has 10 times the motivation even in cold weather. I never had kids my own, but this is my son.

My first vehicle was a white 1978 F 150, long bed truck. I drove that truck in high school 1981-1984.

You are a very considerate young man to fix the good ol truck for you neighbour whom had a little budget. I've bet every single viewer wishes we all had a kid in our neighbourhood like you.
Stay well.

Nice work there! I have a 78 the same color, it's great to see a young man take some interest in saving the old iron. 😊

I am nearly 63 and have had over 50 cars owned and on the road in my time. i have had mostly manuals, some auto's, and even offroad trucks as well as sports cars, but I have never driven a column change. Would love to, but unless in a commercial vehicle or a vintage car, they are / were rare in UK. I used to be a car mechanic, but I have retired from all vehicle work. The roads are too stressful for me to drive on these days. but watching these video's always remoinds me of working in a mechanics shop back in the early 1970's, working on the 'old" cars (ones with points and condenser and carbs) and even having to learn in college about the newer stuff like all of the sensors, egr's, mafs, computers etc and crap they put in cars today to make them more "eco friendly". I hate new cars of today and the past 25 - 30 years.

Coming in late here. Had a 79, big six, four wheel drive, bought it new. I’m 70. That clacking noise is the exhaust manifold gasket. It was a THING for many of those. Not a fun fix. Another great video kid!

I love, love, love Simon's stuff. But does anybody else out there absolutely hate the way he washes a dirty car down? Top to bottom, Simon!
