Finally somebody that knows that starting in ‘78 the choice of round lights with square bezel or higher models like my Ranger XLT had square lights with square bezel. I can’t tell you how many times people would tell me my truck is a 1979 when actually it is a 1978. Knowledge is Golden, ignorance is bliss.

Just bought a 1978 f 250 ranger XLT. Looks pretty good. My wife pushed me to get it only for a project to get me out of my recliner. 3/16/23

Great video. A few corrections though
1. The first year the 302 was available in truck was 1970.
2. The 100 mph was used in trucks 73-76, then in 77 they switched to the 85 mph with kph.
3. 77 was the first year for the 400/351m in trucks. The 400 is not an m and came out in 71. They called the 351m because they destroked the 400 to make the 351m.
4. 77 and up only had the fuel door, 76 and older just had the cap.
I’ve always loved these trucks, I have 76 2wd long bed and a 77 4wd short bed and love them. I’d like to have a whole yard full of them like that guys got.

I have a 78 I bought from a 1 owner in 97 . It had 98k miles swb 4x4 351m auto. I sold it to my brother in 08. He took it apart down to frame, he said he was gonna restore it. I have no idea why he wanted to do that. He had motor rebuilt, there was noting going on with the motor. Anyways I got it back from him, he never put it back together. Gonna start putting it back together this summer. Love the older ford trucks

Some good info, but a lot of bad info also. Ford's all had drip rails. They did not stop putting the fuel tank in the cab in 1973. The 4x4 was available every year of this body style truck. The square headlights are part of the explorer and ranger package in 1978.

Great video. I own a 1975 F150 Ranger XLT with a 390 and C6. One of many dentsides I’ve owned over the years. They are my favourite trucks from that era.

Another great video. Thank you. If I'm not mistaken, 1976 and prior trucks have the round gas cap mounted on the side of the bed and 1977 and up have a square gas door covering the gas cap. Keep 'em Up-N-Runnin.

I remember riding with my father the day he drove his new 1977 F250 Custom Crewcab home from the dealer in fall of 1976. The fact that I drove in one of these brand new is a cool memory now, it’s just unbelievable that was almost 50 years ago now!

That blue shortbox is perfect! I just started messing with mine that's very similar minus the manual plus the trim. bought it when I was 14 for $800, 20 years ago. Any idea what one's worth? I've been trying to find a general idea but I couldn't find a lot on factory shortbox values. Loved the video thanks guys!

The F-150s were basically optional heavy duty half ton pickups just like Chevy's Big 10s at the time because the base F-100s were still in production up through 1983.

@1:10 The 460 wasn't offered on the F250 4x4, AKA Highboy. For some reason, they didn't do that and it might have been a better choice over the 360 FE. Sadly, didn't see any Highboys in this video... One of the best trucks ever.
