Lesson Objective: To understand the difference between systematic and biblical theology and how they work in this course Main Ideas: 1) Systematic theology organizes everything the Bible says about a particular topic together. 2) Biblical aims to understand the content of systematic theology as it is found in history 3) This is a course on biblical theology, because its structure is chronological.

So as we study theology, it is important to know that there are different ways that we can go about the task. For our purposes in this course, we are going to highlight two different kinds of theology: Systematic Theology and Biblical Theology.

Systematic theology is a huge area of study that organizes everything about a particular topic together as the Bible touches on it. Generally speaking, though, there are five main areas of systematic theology that matter to us who are going to be looking at the Bible from an overview perspective. They are:

1. The Nature of God
2. The Nature of Man
3. The Coming of Christ
4. The Work of the Cross
5. The Final Resurrection

Of course, there are many more areas of systematic theology. However for our purposes, these are the five main ones. These are the five central areas of theology that matter to gain a broad overview understanding of the Bible.

The other kind of theology, however, is called Biblical Theology. While systematic theology focuses on organizing everything together to gain a total understanding of a specific subject or topic, Biblical Theology aims to understand those same pieces of systematic theology as we find them in history. Specifically, Biblical Theology looks at how those events have unfolded throughout the timeline of humanity, and how that can shape our understanding and comprehension of the biblical text.

This is a course on biblical theology.

What we are trying to do, is look at those five main areas listed above and understand how they play out chronologically. Not only that, we want to understand how they connect together to form our understanding of the full picture of biblical revelation. Exciting, I know!

Another thing that we need to talk about is: Revelation. Specifically, How does God reveal things to us? That is the subject of our next unit. So, head on over.

This is a phenomenal journey so far ! Ive read the Bible about 3-4 times so plan on listening to all of these videos of this course ! The history of the Word and the Messiah has always fascinated me ever since becoming born again !
