In this video I go over my process for photographing long exposure seascapes. I talk about what shutter speeds I like the best, how to calculate those shutter speeds for really long exposure, and the decisions I make with this style of photography. This video is great for both beginners and more advanced photographers.

I find PhotoPills invaluable now for planning and exposure calculations with ND filters. No release required. Use self time with mirror lock up or electronic shutter. The blended shots are awesome.

Nice breakdown. Yup, let's keep the math to a minimum. 🤪

I would like to see you work on the photos combining them in LR or Photoshop

I’m also a huge fan of long exposure shots! However, I keep over exposing the shots!!! It drives me nuts 🥜👎 Thank you 🙏

I just got the ML-L7 for my Z7II as the firmware update 1.40 included the addition. It's fabulous and has 2 Fnc buttons, I have one for the 'i' and one for 'menu'. The controller has a multi-function controller to move settings.

I found the square glass nd-filters are very fragile

Where would you put your focus point in the scene? And what metering are you using? Partial? Spot? Is f11 the perfect aperture? Thanks.

Have you tried 200mm with 15 stop nd filter, for this kind of photography? Sadly I don't have 10 stop for my wide angle lens, yet.

I'm beginning in long exposure. I have a 1000 nd, and I try with single shot or 3 bracketed -2 -0 - +2 exposure shots

is also a polarized filter necessary to get a nice color of the water?

Mike and Chris, thanks very much for entertaining and informative videos. I enjoy them immensely. A completely sideways question - what kind of boots are you wearing early in this video? They look interesting.

To me that scene needs a prop and get lower. I live on beach and shoot daily long and short exposure. Coconuts rocks, shells or sticks throw something in front brake up the hoo hum.

6:00 Калькулятор ND-фильтров должен быть в современных камерах, а не мобильных приложениях ;-)

I'd add a good pair of wellies to the essential equipment for beach shots here in the UK plus long spikes for the tripod (not just the short ones)
