Isn't the different color you are referring to in method 3 a difference of 2 cents? The A harmonic you are producing on the D string is the same as the third partial on the D string. I recently learned from the book Cello Mind that third partial his two cents sharp.

Cello Tuning Problem: I was gifted a cello my violin was stolen. I purchased a cello check up and they put new strings in and my sound post needed to put in place it rattled and they made adjustments and said it is a nice cello. They tuned my cello and my open D and A do not match the Suzuki recording. Because I have played the violin I am placing my 1st finger on D when the book says open (the open is flat by at least 1/2 step) as 1st finger matches the recording. This is not good because I am trying to learn my open strings and I can not concentrate on my bowing when My fingers go into auto pilot correcting my d to match the recording on cd. I also tried it on internet thinking my recording may have been slightly fast. The violin had to be tuned each time I played and I usually used pegs. The cello seemed to match my cello tuner app and it sounded like it had a nice ring to it. When I played the music without the Suzuki cd iI could hear the melody ( lesson 1 - twinkle twinkle little star ). I find tuning the cello a bit intimidating. Is there a special tuning for Suzuki method? I had 2 books Suzuki Violin method and I do not remember having the I open strings not match the Suzuki recording However I was not relying on open strings like a beginner.
