As a full time musician, it's a trade you can hone without a degree, providing you're good at sales.

Totally agree. I only needed $40k in student loans for my MA and paid them off ASAP. Continued working in public service- not a glamorous career but I have an emergency fund, investments, a house, and retirement.

I totally agree. That is why we encouraged our girls to do STEM from good state college. We paid for their education. They don't have any loans with postgraduate degrees.

The state should repay that degree, or the cost for that degree should be lower that what the individual in question can make.

I am a WORKING artist, designer and musician. I have no degree or debt. Learn sales. Learn business. Learn to swallow your pride and do other jobs while you create your own path.

Sociology degree in Russia are free for exactly that reason! Working as a social worker is demanding and not well paid, you can’t go into huge debt for that!

Where would you pay $250, 000 for an MA? An MA is a two year program at most. The average total tuition cost for an MA is about $50, 000.

I was that rock for a number of years. Grateful that the Lord led me to Dave Ramsey’s teachings on biblical principle in finance that changed my life

It is crazy there is a majority that doesn’t inherently understand this. When teachers b*tch about their pay I don’t care because one three second google search could have told you you’re not gonna make sh*t.

Hubby spent probably 40-50k on a music degree from a good university for his hobby and he finishes paying it off very soon! It has enriched his life for sure. I agree that in the right scope it’s a great investment. To be fair the loans are interest free in our country (although it comes out in increased govt deduction on your pay check! So we will have an extra $800/month available soon)

Also there's nothing an ivy league school can do better to prepare you for most jobs. In most fields a year at work is worth more than the entire education process

Over schooled, under educated, and in debt. And tunnel vision re: general common knowledge. That's a Masters in some specific field with a framed document to hang on the wall.

A state job is usually tenured, what's more, a Masters degree looks impressive on a CV and can open more doors moving forward. However, the student loan burden requires creative thinking before being agreed to.

americans could move to argentina, chile etc or even european countries.
and pay less than 30k for any degree they want.
and the quality is the same.
is not like america has the best universities either.
yes harvard is great... but its too expensive for what you recieve.
