This really looked like a good method. tHanks for the video. I'm looking forward to attempting to clean one of my saws. tHanks again.

Thank you for posting this video. So far I have restored 1965 Delta Unisaw that was very rusty using your knowledge. I have watched all the rust removal video's for years and nothing new has been explored...they are mostly the same and some are stupidly wrong with poor results. Also, they almost never remove heavy rust, usually only light to medium surface rust. I used electrolisys on the table parts and YES it did remove the heavy rust but left the metal dark grey after dipping/cleaning and the stains remained. I have tried sanding with wet-dry automotive sandpaper, wire wheel, and buffing with scotchbrite. Nothing seemed to get the finish I wanted especially without spending countless hours doing so. The simple wire wheel did an acceptable job that would have taken forever to complete. Frustrated, I was doubting the decision to purchase these old machines and was accepting the thought of having ugly table tops. On 9/18/23 I stumbled onto your video and was SHOCKED! I immediatly ordered the discs you recomend and some other's that were cheaper. I received the cheaper ones first (less than 12 hours) and tried it out on a third heavily rusted saw and it did EXACTLY what you said it would so I tried it on the actual saw I was restoring. In less than 24 hours from the time I watched your video I had a beautifull smooth light grey cast iron top on one of the saws and will be doing the next one today. It is hard to describe how well the finish came out. The many deep scratches are still there, but the top is smooth and glassy. I used a small wire wheel on a cordless drill to clean out the deep scratches and pitted rust, then I went over it with the disk you recomeded. The disk removed the dark oxidation and removed the micro scratches on the surface also the stains from people placing drinks on the table. I spent about 1-1/2 hours cleaning, "grinding", cleaning, grinding. The outcome is AMAZING, and I am totally impressed. I made this comment long winded on purpose because I wanted people to know this is the way to get the machine top you want without breaking your back or spending day's getting there. Thank-you so much for posting this

I'm a little worried about creating an uneven surface from the pad, but am conflicted since I have used the same pad to remove paint and stain from my stairs with little damage to the wood.

Thought I'd share an comparison for all. I think I'll try this method. Thanks man!

I like what you did, but you did not finish the job! How did you clean the tracks where the miter gauge goes? if you had that much rust on the top, you had that much in the track. How did you fix that? Thank you.

So I bought the purple disc pad using your amazon link and did a test piece section on the wing. With no downward force it seemed a little too rough (swirl marks) on the surface and as recommended made sure to always move the grinder. My purple disc pad was rated for 40 grit, was your the same grit?. Maybe I'll try and find a similar style pad with a lesser grit. Do you know the RPM's of your grinder?

I’m sorry that you didn’t care about the flatness. I have been maintaining shop tools for quite some time and cannot recommend this video to anyone.
