Ben Carson is literally a ground breaking brain surgeon who was raised by a devoted mother. She made him read everyday even though she herself could not read. She pushed him to educate and discipline himself to be a success .

Carson was living in the urban world and pushed back but in the end like a prodigal son he realized the value of his mommas words and became a man of science and faith.

They made a movie about his rise and Cuba Gooding Junior played him . He was elevated as black roll model and hero by Hollywood until he came out as a Republican.

Ben Carson is a legitimate genius. He was the first brain surgeon to successfully separate twins connected by their brains. He was successfully the first time and this surgery requires multiple teams of specialists coming in and out of the room precisely on time because you only have a certain amount of time before the patient dies. He's a freaking brilliant man don't let anyone fool you. Ben Carson came from the project they were dirt poor he tells the story.

i'm only a few years younger than van but i'll tell you what: he's a _REAL_ role model. this guy has it all figured out and his amazing family is the proof of that. kudos van the man. (my family is awesome as well but van is the guy that chose this path and he definitely deserves some extra recognition. )
