RV Awning tube straighting.

Straightening a bent RV Awning tube using 2--- 2x6x16 boards and 1-- 2x4x12. And some deck screws about 3 inches long. Afterwards you can usually return the 2x6s to the lumber yard as those were over $60 bucks for 2. (I had to get a bank loan for them, lol).

You can do the same thing without removing anything. Roll the awning out as far as possible but make sure curve is down. Support middle of roller, I used a plastic barrel because I happened to have one on hand. One person on each end push down at the same time until a little past straight. If you are alone you can do the reverse by securing both ends to the ground and using a jack and some wood to push up on the center until a little past straight.

That’s exactly what happened with me yesterday. It was heavy rain and I would never thought it would make a pool of water in awning. The roller was bent. I hardly rolled it back. I felt like I was gonna break it. Thanks for the video! Will need that now for sure

You are so right the cost of the lumber, it is almost as much as just replacing the tube. Since I had just replaced my fabric last month and the damaging rainstorm was this week, I used a variation of your great video. I extended the awning fully, pinned the left side to keep the spring from losing tension, then removed the two screws holding the tube to the support arms so I pull it off the arms. I set each end of the tube on saw horses (without removing fabric) and bounced on the center of the tube (I weigh 250#) after putting the "high" side up. As you indicated, you had to over bend it 5" to 6" so I put and additional saw horse in the center (5" shorter than the end horses) where I sat on it, so I wouldn't overbend or kink the tube. It worked like a charm. Start to finish right at an hour. Thanks for the encouraging video.

Thanks a lot Dennis. I followed your plan although I managed to do it without taking off the fabric. Got the first 4 inches of bend out easily but last half inch required leaving it for several hours while the molecules figured things out. Much appreciated.

I had just replaced my entire 18' tube/awning and the the whole assembly with new fabric from dometic was $600 shipped, which I didn't think was bad, and then a minor rain came along, .25" maybe and bent the new one just like the old one! I'm going to give this method a try to fix the new one, and I'm going to try it first on the old one to see how it goes. If it works out, I guess I'll have a spare! Thanks for great video and for Mr Zellers variation as well.

Found your video while searching for a 22' Replacement tube that was a victim of a rainstorm. THANKS so much for the video !!. I had not thought of hydraulics. Unfortunately it seems MX57 is no longer in business. Cant find it anywhere.

Did you have any issues with the cylinder getting dents from where you pushed? Did you push about every foot or so working down the length or just right in the center? I don't have a porta power, so I'll have to build a jig to use a bottle jack vertically cause it won't pump horizontal.

With the price of lumber it might be better to buy a new bar.
