Repairing our RV Awning Arm and Metal Straightening

This was how I repaired our RV awning arm after I hit the house backing in after our last trip. I had to do some serious metal straightening to get it back where it works correctly. It wasn't as easy as I thought it'd be. That was stronger metal than a thought. Took quite a bit of pressure to get it back straight. But in the end it works now and unless you really go looking for it you don't really notice it.

Hi Chuck, who knew that would be so hard to bend back into place. Good job.- Lucy

Good repair job. I would not have thought to use a socket like that. You can't even tell it was damaged now.

Thanks for posting this. Used your methods to straighten the same awning arm on my camper. When closing awning at night; The lower end of arm came down on top of a camping lantern sitting on a table outside our RV. Wish I could post a pic of how terribly bent it was 🤪. Got it pretty straight using a vise, and the front of my cargo trailer. Even used the socket trick lol. After some epoxy filler and satin black spray paint you hardly notice it was ever bent! Your video saved me $$ 😀

How did you re attach the washers on the pins? Or i guess its like a spring clip type thing.. Mine seem to sort of pressure fit on, looks like a ridged washer

Great job with what looked to be limited options aka tools for that type of thing extra I could think of is some heat but then the metal could lose its strength...anyhow we noticed you guys signed up awhile back and we just got to a place for two days that has wifi
we want to thank you for joining us and we have come back to do the same looks like we all enjoy the outdoors and travel. We are currently traveling the US in a travel trailer and some of the most of the places we stay have limited or no wifi so we are not as active as we would like to be but we do try and watch our fellow youtubers whenever we get a decent wifi signal. once we sub though we will not drop you and we will come by and comment and leave a thumbs up as much as it can may be weeks or even a month before you see us.
We do have a hotspot but we both work remote so data is a precious commodity until we get to a place that has wifi we can use and it is fast enough to use....speed being the bigger part of the problem....lots of places have wifi but not fast enough wifi to watch videos anyhow long rambling comment to say thank you for joining us and we have joined your channel today.

What’s the model and number of your awning? I have a bend also.

I backed into the garage and it slightly bent both outside arms a couple inches and won't go up tight to the RV side so I was planning on trying this. I don't have any dents just a slight curve to the left. I was thinking if I made something that fit the channel good I could put that inside and use some rags etc and put it in a vise. Anyone have any better ideas? Your video gives me hope...

Thanks for the video, I have the exact same problem with what looks like the same awning. Can I ask if there was any difficulty removing the upper end of the arm from the roller? Did the roller have to be supported in some way?

Thanks again!
