A amazing gentle man who brightened the world in his young short life.

So wonderful that in the scouts they made him custom uniforms, tents and sleeping bags. In an age where it is very easy to be the victim of bullying he could probably enjoy the activities like any else of the boys. That is really wholesome.

His parents would never lose him at the mall or in a big public area, he would just stand up.

I had a cousin who passed away in 1992 who was only 15 years old and was 6'5". He also had giantism. He died of a heart condition. He just fell down from his chair as he stood up. And passed right there.

I owe a TON to Mr. Robert Wadlow. I had the same growth problem as Robert. I was ( at age 12 and I am female ) already 6'4", Here as a kid I was reading the Guinness book of world records daily and came across his account. I started checking the height Robert was at certain ages and my jumps in height were fairly similar. At the end of grade 4 I was 5"5" ( the same as my mother, At the end of grade 5 I was 5'10", and so on. The so called doctor I had at the time kept laughing at my concerns and said I was tall like this because my dad was tall - seriously ??? One appointment I came in at age 12 I told the doctor I think I might have this disorder called gigantism that I had read about in the GWR. She laughed at me. My mother got pretty mad and at least got the Doctor to do a head Xray and blood tests. Well, when the results came back, my doctor wasn"t laughing at me any more - they tested my Growth Hormone ( GH ) levels. Well 0-5 was normal, 5-10 was iffy, my result was 42.5. The Xray also showed a shadow in the pituitary area of my brain. My bone ends were judged to be at the age of 12, so I had a LOT of prime growth ahead of me if this tumor wasn't removed. Thank God this was operated on and removed or my height probably would have been well over 7 feet tall. God Bless you Mr. Wadlow, I hope to see you some day and give you a monster big hug !!!

No parent should ever have to burn their child's belongings and memories of them for fear of them being stolen. That's very sad. Or be afraid their child will be dug up after burial. I know he was 22 when he passed but he was always their child. He seemed like nothing but a kind gentle person.

One thing that is interesting is that most of the people who have birth defects like this are usually treated very poorly by there family, and often have to go to abusive circus routines to make money. But Wadlow was treated well by his family, which made his life a good one, even if it was short and hard.

I grew up in Alton, Illinois and my mother (1926 - 2019) knew Robert Wadlow well since they both lived in the Upper Alton section of town and went to the same school, although were not in the same grade. Mom said that Robert never failed to say Hello to her in town and to spend time chatting. He was well-respected and never treated as a freak in his home town. He was a gentleman in every respect

Back in the early 80s in my hometown of Coeburn Va . I overheard some of the elderly gentlemen talk about when they were kids how he came through selling shoes . As kids they were shocked to see someone his size, they said he was a gentle giant.

Väinö Myllyrinne (27 February 1909 – 13 April 1963) was a finnish giant

In 1962, just a year before his death, he was measured by doctors at 2.48 m (8 ft 1.5 in). He had a 290 mm (11.4 in) hand span, the greatest known.

I feel so bad for this beautiful man. It's so SAD, how many people died in the past, because our technology wasn't there just yet. He was a gentleman, and a giant, but also an Angel.
